Immediate reaction: No Kate Winslet, ouch; two noms for Curse of the Golden Flowers, good; Half Nelson is going to be a player.

I love how insanely nutty these always are. X-Men 3 for Cinematography! Blythe Danner for The Last Kiss! AURORA BOREALIS?!?

So, so nutty.

And I should note these guys don't exactly play a big role in the race. Didn't Phantom of the Opera get like, 10 nominations?

Still, Half Nelson showing up here and at the Spirit Awards could mean something...

Yeah, since they are so inclusive, it's not about who got in, but more about who didn't. I think that was especially true for Best Actress in the past several years.

And look like they haven't seen either of The Good.

Curses. No Kate Winslet. Is this the last straw?

I like the Babel love though, although nothing really means anything in terms of Oscar potential (unless, like xiayun said, there is a notable omission).

Peace,
Mike.

Fuck! No Kate! That's very bad!
But the other nominations were correct, there's no big surprises, Great for Leo and for me Flags is still in the race, Letters might help or ruin its chances.
Go Clint, go Kate!

Not a single nom for Children Of Men...

I can only assume it wasn't screened for them. Yes. That has to be it.

Mixed media. Narnia was nominated here last year too...

And what happened to the comedy and drama divisions in the supporting actor and actress nominees? These awards just don't nominate everything eligible like in the good ol' days...

Well, they're still random enough to matter - at least that  Go Maggie Gyllenhaal?

You think Gosling could sneak in for 5th spot best Actor. Alot of the BP candidates this year are ensemble pieces, including The Departed, and Volver is pretty much all women, etc. We need to keep our eye on how many noms gosling gets. he could be this year's Amy Adams. 2 million dollar grossing productions getting noms is not unheard of.

Gosling looks very good for a nom. There are four strong contenders (Will, Pete, Forrest, and Leonardo), and Gosling is prime for the other spot. Out of the 10 Best Actor nominees here, he is certainly in better position than Luke, Jackson, Wilson, Cross, Eckhard, Cohen (the buzz has gone weaker since the release, I feel), and Ferrell.

I'm really surprised to see any love for Running With Scissors. The awards will end here, though.

Great for Babel... solid showing here.

lol @ Kate's late entry. I was gonna say giving Patrick Wilson a nod and snubbing her would be quite odd.

I think Golsing is in definite contention for a nod at this point. I still think Wittaker should be suporting. and I'm not sold on Smith yet.

- Leaving Kate out was too weird to be true.

- Talking about Little Children, it seems like the movie isn't dead yet, with 4 important noms.

- Ditto for Babel and Flags with 8 and 10 noms respectively, making me feel even more confident in predicting them for "the final two spots".

- 7 contenders for Best Drama, and United 93 is not in there. In fact, it was snubbed COMPLETELY. Not good.

- Half Nelson and Little Miss Sunshine seem to be fighting for the "indie" spot now.

I'm waiting for NBR.

Yeah, in grand scheme of things, Satellite counts basically nothing.

Love to see Gretchen Mol and Blythe Danner finally being thrown into the mix. But there should be a rule against main actors to be put into supporting categories and vice versa. Leo for Departed as supporting? Come on. I mean the Oscars have a rule which percentage of a mocie has to be animated to be eligible for animated Oscar and they threw out the Aviator score because only a certain percentage was original.
Why don't all awards implement a rule if someone's on the screen for more than XX% of the time, he's not supporting.

From Hollywood Reporter:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr...ab4f504f320da13

"The Departed" and "Dreamgirls" were named best motion picture, drama and best motion picture, comedy or musical at the 11th annual Satellite Awards, which were announced Sunday by the International Press Academy.

"Dreamgirls" also earned awards for best director Bill Condon -- who tied for that honor with Clint Eastwood for "Flags of our Fathers" -- as well as supporting actor Jennifer Hudson, and sound (editing and mixing).

"The Departed" also earned best actor in a supporting role for Leonard DiCaprio, best adapted screenplay for William Monahan and best ensemble. Best dramatic acting honors went to Helen Mirren for "The Queen" and Forest Whitaker for "The Last King of Scotland." Top comedy acting awards went to Meryl Streep for "The Devil Wears Prada" and Joseph Cross for "Running with Scissors."

Other awards included: Best foreign language film, "Volver"; animated or mixed media, "Pan's Labyrinth"; documentary, "Deliver Us from Evil."

"Flags of Our Fathers" also earned awards for cinematography and art direction and production design. In the TV categories, "House" and "Ugly Betty" were named top dramatic and comedy series.

There's no full list yet that I can find.

Peace,
Mike.
