 Poltergeist Remake!!
"In 1982 MGM released one of the scariest films of all time, Poltergeist, which was written and produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper. The film is of legend, being that it's not only extremely scary, but that it was rated PG (after an appeal from an R). Word has come down from various confirmed sources that the once titled "Poltergeist: Kayeri" is now being retooled as a remake of the original film. Poltergeist, which is about a family's home being haunted by a host of ghosts, is now looking to attach a director.
Although Clint Morris did write the original "Poltergeist Kayeri", it's not believed he is part of the new project.
In addition, I can also confirm that Zelda Rubinstein, Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams will not be part of the remake.
In the original, a young family are visited by ghosts in their home. At first the ghosts appear friendly, moving objects around the house to the amusement of everyone, then they turn nasty and start to terrorise the family before they "kidnap" the youngest daughter."

What a drag, and its not if the film's production values look dated, the films effects are still top notch IMO.

Cough Speilberg also directed most of it Cough Cough.
Remaking this film is a terrible idea. Now, there is definitely room to breathe on the whole poltergeist angle, but the original was just so damn creepy and wonderfully filmed. And of course Caryann and Tangina, and remaking a spielberg film is never a good idea, because this was him in his prime damnit. This is a bad idea considering the curse of the films as well.
The other daughter was murdered after this movie opened. Heather O Rourke died before she was 12, The son never worked again, the villian of the 2nd film died two months after it was released, Tobe Hooper never made an even remotely good film again. They should make a film about a cursed movie set, now that would interesting.

Just another horror remake. Ho hum. I'm desensitized to it now.

First they were remaking movies from 50 years ago, then 30 years ago. Poltergeist was 25 years ago. Next year, will they remake horror from 10 years ago? Then 5 years ago? At this rate they're going to run out of ideas by 2010, which might not be a bad thing.

I can see it now...
Platinum Dunes have announced they're remaking Children Of Men with an aim to have it in theatres by Fall 2007.
Of the decision, Michael Bay had this to say: "I love the original, but I don't think anyone will argue that it's very much a product of its time. We going to re-introduce and update the film to reflect today's political climate, making it more relevant for younger audiences who may not be familiar with the original."
The original Children of Men was a dystopian thriller, following Clive Owen's attempts to keep the world's first pregnant woman in 18 years safe from both a fascist government and a rebel terrorist faction. But Bay's version promises even more excitement: "I don't want to spoil the ending, but don't be surprised if a certain leather-faced, chainsaw-wielding maniac shows up!"
Desperate Housewives' Jessie Metcalfe and One Tree Hill's Sophia Bush are in talks to star.

Well Japanese Remakes to America have bee in under 5 years. But it is rediculous.
And I love the "Make it more relevant for today's audiences" argument. If a film is good, it doesnt need to be revamped. The best films that remain timeless are the ones that deal the least with the outside environment, time period etc. Poltergeist and the Thing were two that definitely had that.

I'm going to contradict myself and sort of disagree with that. There are some stories that are so classic and timeless that maybe several directors should be able to film their own interpretations. Charlotte's Web. Shakespeare plays, like Richard III in a fictional Nazi England http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114279/
PJ re-did King Kong, PJ's LotR was a "remake" of the Rankin-Bass. I guess some other director will take a crack at LotR again sooner or later. Dune was done twice; once OK (the movie) and once crappy (sci-fi channel).
But you have to be careful what you pick to remake. Too many times, it just sounds they're just closing their eyes and pointing at a stack of DVD's to decide. On the other hand, they know the audience doens't like the unknown either, which is why sequels do so well. It's a tough balancing act.
