Tonight was one of the better episodes. Besides the intervention, pretty good show. Tonight I think is when the show switches gears. Hopefully next week it won't "stall" out.

Kill me. :disgust:

Oh yeah. That "bombshell" I believe is the introduction to Jordan being pregneant. Amanda Peet mentioned it on the Tonight Show about a month ago since she is pregneant, so that makes sense.

I watched an episode I had on tape but hadn't got around to, Nevada Day part 2. Mostly it was the same problems, I won't list them out, but I was impressed with how they used Lucy Davis, they gave her a bigger role and she was great.

They seem to like Lucy, because she's been more prominent with every episode.

Archie, did you watch this week? I won't spoil it if you're going to watch it.

I finally got a prediction right.

Great epsiode tonight. Unlike the episode a couple of weeks ago, I liked how they told the story through the flashback (What's with NBC and the flashbacks?). It setup the hostage sketch nicely and the very ending.

I also like the addition of Mark McKinney. If he stays, his character will be a very good addition to the show.

I have it taped and will watch it later. Didn't read the post just above yet. I'll have a post with gripes and praise later or tomorrow. Go ahead and post all you want, I'll just stay out of here till I watch it.

OK I saw it. I am really pleased with both them giving Lucy Davis a much bigger role and the organic way they did that without huge alterations to her character. I hope it wasn't a one episode thing. Of course I rolled my eyes at some talk and scenes but it was overall an improvement. The flashbacks were used well, I wasn't sure what was going on at first but that was okay.

That was Mark McKinny? From the Kids in the Hall? Wow has he grown up, I haven't seen him in ages. I'm crushing his head!

Another good episode tonight. The only thing that kind of left a foul taste in my mouth was the New Orleans thing and I'm not even sure if I'm bothered by it or not. On one hand it was a touching moment. On the other other, I kind of felt like Aaron Sorkin was saying something like, "Pay attention, we're being sentimental here. See, we care!" Looking at the setup - it would of worked well on Studio 60 - the actual show on NBS. To me, when it blended in with the NBC show, it came across as kind of fake.

(It would be a miracle it that made any sense, since I'm half asleep.)

It's a small complaint though since the scene lasts about three minutes. What I did like about the show was the setups for the second half of the season. The struggle with the FCC, the relationships between Jordan and Danny along with Matt and Harriet. I also enjoyed the small moments in the writer's room, although all of the talk about Santa was kind of annoying.

It was over sentimental, with all the love breaking out, and the New Orleans thing wasn't handled well, I would have been much more impressed with them finding that one particular musician a good job, and a few little scenes of drama associated with doing that.

However, it wasn't full of talk about Pericles and stereotypes of middle Americans which is a sort of breakthrough for the series. Having most of the writers leave a couple episodes ago and them having to rebuild it has helped, McKinney and Davis have added a lot.

Edit: Seeing this post the next day I sound more negative than I felt. It was pleasant to watch and another episode that showed a marked improvement for me and didn't irk me like some did in the past and I didn't mind the way it ended with the New Orleans thing, I guess I just liked the initial talk with that one musician and wish it had continued. Not that big a deal though.

A good episode last night.

When New Orleans first entered the picture I let out a groan that could probably be heard in most South American countries, but I don't know...I thought it was carried out nicely at the end.

Just finished watching it. Even though the show has been off for so long, I can say that wasn't one of the best episodes. It was decent, but the backstage stuff just wasn't interesting. I did like Alison Janney though. And it must have just worked out this way, but it was a little bit odd to see the show's three biggest stars not on the first episode since January.

I just hope after the seven week summer run (7?) there's at least some closure with some of these characters by the time the show wraps up.

For me one of the problems with this series is it focused too much on the rich successful people behind the show, and that doesn't really create a bridge to the audience and get us involved. They've already made it, there's less drama focusing on them.

If the show was about Nate Corddry, DL Hughly and Lucy Davis as the main people I bet it might have done better. But it still would have needed someone writing scripts besides Sorkin, he had a screenwriter credit for almost every episode. If he'd just trusted his writers and not been a control freak.

Good episode tonight, but with problems. I liked everything up until the final 15 minutes. The show took it's sweet ass time to develop and then within the final 15 minutes, every plot point was rushed out at the close of the show. The lawsuit, Jordan's pregnancy, Tom's brother, Tom/Lucy, the ratings, and the drug use. Did I miss anything? And then I can't help but feel that the Iraq situation is in somewhat poor taste. I really liked Corddry's performance, but I can't help feeling weird about what Sorkin is doing. And was Jordan's, "He has an axe!" line really necessary? The biggest sin of all though, Jenna Fischer was only on for 5 seconds. Hopefully there is some deleted footage that will be on the DVD.

I basically agree. It was alright till the end and I also didn't like the way they had Tom just run off and leave Lucy considering how serious he is about her.

It's amazing how quickly you can go from liking a show to really not liking it. Sorkin has completely forgot about what the show is about and it's kind of unbelieveable. I mean the show's premise is in it's title Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The show is supposed to be about what goes on backstage at an SNL type show, not Sorkin's political roundup hour. And it's not that I disagree with him or anything. I agree with him on a bunch of the points he's brought up through the characters. My point is jesus is that it's the wrong forum for him to do it in. Maybe if I cared a little bit more about the characters it could've worked, but it's now like watching a bunch of blank heads ramble on about shit that happened five years ago. And could it get anymore self-indulgent? Next week will be "Part IV" of this storyline about Jordan, the kidnapping, D.L.'s character's problem, and the Matt/Harriet storyline. I know they have to try and cram in as much as possible since this is it for the show, but it would be nice if it were about Studio 60 which is what the show was for about 17 episodes, and not this crap Sorkin is spewing out. He already did this with The West Wing. It's a shame in the final episodes that he has to go back to what he knows best because he's insecure about writing something different.

Is anyone actually watching the show, or am I the only one at this point? :funny:

Yeah the thing about this show is that it would have all worked if he'd simply made it about backstage at a news show instead of backstage at a comedy show. But since they can't change premises, they really should make more of an effort to have it be about a comedy and drop the politics.

But either way I am watching it still, and actually liking it more than I used to because they are featuring the best characters lately: Tom, Lucy, Mark McKinney. Weber can be fun too. The scripts are bad but I like those actors and characters. If they spun them off into their own show I'd watch it.

You know, Sorkin managed to do an amazing job at mixing humor, politics and sports, the actual supposed topic of the show, on Sports Night. Why the hell can't he get it right this time?

No clue, I think that is my problem with Studio 60, Sports Night was so much better I just can't get into Studio.

I hated the finale. I hated it in the sense that it was so good that it made up for the massive fuck up that were the previous three episodes. I know it might have been a little too lovey-dovey for some people in that (Spoiler)everything that could've gone right for each character did(End Spoiler), but I liked it. I really liked it.

It's a shame. If the show were cheaper to produce, there probably would've been a second season. Maybe then it could've actually have been a show about what goes on backstage at a sketch comedy show.
