It was okay, but somehow, they continue to create stories that aren't compelling at all. This was nowhere near the atrocity that Tobe Hooper bestowed upon us last season, but it still bored the life out of me. Next season (if there is one), maybe they should start the season with a better and scarier episode for Halloween (it won't air on Halloween, but will be close to it, like the last two seasons).

Next week does, indeed, look far better than the premiere (and anything else the series has done, for that matter). I guess that means it's actually going to suck, and all the good stuff was in the preview. Then again, can they really screw up a guest starring role from George Wendt?

The George Wendt of House fame

First time seeing an episode of Masters of Horror, and it was absolutelly awful.

Roid summed it up well, only I'd say just first minute was interesting.

Does anyone know if there are ANY intentions on releasing full season sets of Masters of Horror? I saw "Pick Me Up" and "Jenifer" at Walmart today, and I was going to buy them, but it seems like a big waste if they just end up releasing full season sets eventually. I don't even care if it's just the episodes and none of those extras on the single-disc DVDs.

I might be wrong, but I thought last night's episode was one of the best episodes of the series to date. George Wendt was great in the sick, twisted main role. But, after seeing him for the first time in a while, I wonder how long before his name winds up in the obits.

Yeah pretty much a big improvement over the premiere episode. I dont think its the firswt time George Wendt played some weird psychopath since he played a cannibalistic alien in the Visiting Avenger

Next week's episode is "The V Word", written by Mick Garris and directed by Ernest Dickerson. There's no comparible Season 1 episode for Dickerson, but Garris' first year work (Chocolate; Haeckel's Tale) weren't all that great. I don't know what to expect.

Gore level is used cleverly. For instance George Wendt is a character who imagines things so when he was disolving this old lady in a tub with acid, he was visioning him giving the old lady in the flesh a sponge bath and having her act as the grandmother to his 7 year old daugher who was also a skeletal corpse. You have to see it and find the humor in all of it

I enjoyed last night's episode more than I thought I would, however it ends up being two separate stories almost. The first half is creepy. Dare I say it, it's almost scary. The second half is almost a "How to Deal with Being a Vampire" story. That's not to say the second half isn't good, but it certainly lacks the edge of the first half. For me, at least.

The biggest complaints I had were illogical happenings. First and foremost, one of the lead characters goes through one hellish experience in a funeral home, leaving behind his presumably dead best friend, being feasted on by a vamp. When he gets back home, his attempts to dial 911 are hopeless, when the operator continuously assumes that the calls are pranks. A bit understandable, I suppose. But then, the guy that made it out alive is awoken by a faint knock on the front door. How the hell would anyone be able to sleep after that? His best friend had his throat ripped out by a vampire! And Sleepy here has no trouble catching Z's soon after returning home.

And, perhaps my biggest complaint, is how the vampires move around. One second they're fully functional, able to speak and think clearly. The next second they're walking zombies. I understand that without blood, the vamps pretty much are walking zombies, but I just didn't like it. Maybe it's my lack of vampire knowledge or experience, but I just didn't like it.

But, the mini-movie is quite creepy, all complaints aside. That first half is enough to watch the second half, where the leads become vamps. There's two good gory scenes, one involving a vamp feasting on blood, and the other involving a chainsaw, bringing forth a messy beheading. Then, there's one other scene involving the sun that's a bit over-the-top.

I'll give it a B+. Don't expect something original or logical. At least the season is 2 for 3 thus far, something I cannot say for the same time last season (with the generic Incidents On and Off a Mountain Road, and the awful Dreams in the Witchhouse and Dance of the Dead).

The Damned Thing: C-
Family: A-
The V Word: B+

Wow did that V word episode suck(no pun intended) or what. It was not even suspensful and there was hardly any gore. I guess its just me that find vampires pretty much boring lately. They should bring back the days of From Dusk Till Dawn and John Carpenter's Vampire which took vampires to a new level. C-

Not the first time we disagree.

What's on the plate for Friday night's episode? I hope it's good.

Another bad episode that seemed like it fit more in the Outer Limits/ Twlight Zone mode than with horror like Tales from the Crypt. C-

Pretty good I may say. Ron Perlman played some crazy nut dad trying to save his daughter from an abortion who was about to give birth to a demon. God told him to save his unborn baby grandson but in the end it was revealed that it was the demon who told him to. It was pretty gruesome with heads being blown with a shotgun and Ron Perlman performing his own abortion operation on a male doctor. You can imagine how that went

Holy shit!
"Pelts" was just ack grotesque. I would say its even gorier than Jenifer. Theres nothing more sick than skinning yourself. Probably the goriest MOH to date, I would say Imprint was more disturbing than gory
Gore scenes: A kid blundgens his pop to death and procedes to kim himself by placing his face on a bear trap where his face gets sliced in half
A Worker makes incisions to his abdomen with a pair of scissors and pulls out his own intestines out
An elder asian women sews her mouth and eyes shut
And of course the businessman skins himself from his waist to neck with a knife and presents his flay of skin to a stripper

Pro-Life was a good episode, but I expected a bit more, especially with Ron Perlman. I think he should have played a monster character. He didn't even need make-up! I figured it was some demon thing inside the kid, so it was a letdown that nothing was unpredictable. The gunshots were awesome, though. Grade: B

Pelts had a fairly boring plotline with some of the best gory moments that any television series has produced. It was actually gorier than any movie I have seen. It bordered on being ridiculously grotesque, but you expect the best with MOH, and in the blood department, it did not disappoint this week. Too bad they couldn't come up with a better storyline. Grade: B- (D for the story, A for the blood!)

So...

The Damned Thing: D
Family: A
The V Word: B-
Sounds Like: B+
Pro Life: B
Pelts: B-

I would say MOH is way better than last season so far. If it wasn't for the awful premiere, I would have some faith that the rest of the season will be just as good.

Wow our grades are all over the place. The only episodes I agree with on were The Damned Thing and Family. I thought V Word and Sounds Like were crap but gave the best grades to Pro Life and Pelts

"The Screwfly Solution"

C

Pretty boring except there was this funny part of a scene that reminds me of a misogynistic joke. There supposedly this virus that makes men more aggressive towards women and making them beat the crap out of them. Anyhow this one lady was inside an airplane that wont shut up. The men were getting angry and telling her to quiet down so this male passenger gets up and snaps her neck. The guy seated behind the lady says "thank you" Something about that scene made me laugh

Another crappy episode I saw last week. The premise seems like those cheap edited version of HP Lovecraft you see on tv complete with a lack of suspense and so many plot holes.

Right to Die - A+
Best episode of the season or for that matter best episode produced thus far surpassing the previous first season episodes. Theres so many things that the episode got right from its humor, great plot and alot of gore. Pretty much its an episode about a dentist who pretty much lacks a backbone and gets bossed around by his wife. His wife finds out that hes having an affair with his assistant so she threatens to divorce him and breaks it off with him while they are both in a vehicle. This causes him to crash his car and his wife gets set on fire and pretty much has all her flesh burnt off except shes still alive in a coma state in teh hospital. This may have been good news for her husband but while his wife goes through a flatline stage, her spirit comes back to boss his husband around and thats when the husband pleads for the doctors to keep her alive so her nagging spirit wont torment him.Dont want to give out too many spoilers but the guy must be the most whipped husband in a horror movie

another bump. Am I the only one left watching the show? I know the beginning had alot of episodes that were a letdown but however there were some good ones that some of you folks missed.

The last 3 episodes

"Ice Cream You Scream" A-
Think Stephen King's It. I liked this episode because I love killer klowns. The basis of the episode is about a group of young kids who accidently murdered their local Ice Cream man and his spirit rises up 30 years later to exact revenge on them and their families. The coolest scenes are seeing the people melting away like Ice Cream with their skin bones and guts turning to liquid

"Black Cat" D
Boring. They rehash a bunch of Edgar Allen Poe stories into one but even moves much slower than that

The Washingtonians" B+/A-

It would have gotten an A if the firs 20 mins werent so slow but it has one of the most interesting plot from the show. Pretty much a man and his family finds a letter that implicates george washington as a cannibal but a cult of cannibals in town called the "Washingtonians" try to prevent the letter from being leaked. Pretty gory especially the dining scene and also the twist at the end with the dollar bill, I got a big laugh out of it

"Right to Die" is still the best episode produced so far in MOH's two season. Go see it

The Screwfly Solution was barely memorable. I only watched it a few days ago, and all I remember is Elliot Gould and Jason Priestly trying to kill his wife in a "guys hate girls" world. Grade: C+

Valerie on the Stairs was also quite bland. Boring, even. I was hoping for some psycho killer from Christopher Lloyd, but I sure was disappointed. Grade: C-

Right to Die was very well done. Not my favorite of the series ("Family" takes that one), but definitely great. I thought it meandered a bit here and there, but not nearly as badly as many episodes tend to do. Grade: B+

We All Scream for Ice Cream was definitely one of the best concepts the series has done, but as always, the execution just doesn't do it justice. It was good, but... again, it lacked something. I think a stronger lead would have worked. But, William Forsythe was great as Buster the Clown. And people turning into ice cream? Awesome. Grade: B

I'm watching The Black Cat now. Very boring so far.
