 Catch a Fire
Catch a Fire Quote: Catch a Fire is a 2006 dramatic thriller about activists against apartheid in South Africa. The film was directed by Phillip Noyce, from a screenplay written by Shawn Slovo. Slovo's father, Joe Slovo, and mother Ruth First, leaders of the South African Communist Party and activists in the Anti-Apartheid Movement, appear as characters in the film, while her sister, Robyn Slovo, produced the film and plays their mother Ruth First. Catch a Fire was shot on location in South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.

Suprisingly good...for a while. Unfortunately it falls trap to the usual "inspirational real life stories" cliches and ends up not really standing out from most other films of its kind. Not a bad film, Robbins and Luke give fantastic performances, but that is about it.

Really disappointing. The story the film is telling is rich material, ripe for a complex and ambitious take on it....Catch a Fire mostly misfiried. The film tells the story in a very simple, banal, casual way that doesn't evoke any emotional resonance nor does it provoke the viewer's thinking. It's just...there. Derek Luke delivers a very good performance and the storyline is just interesting enough not to bore the viewer, but it remains fairly hollow until the very end. Tim Robbins is quite wasted in his role...
