Darkness
DarknessQuote: Darkness is a 2002 horror film directed by Jaume Balagueró about an American teenage girl who moves into a haunted house with her family in the Spanish countryside. The film stars Anna Paquin, Lena Olin, Iain Glen, and Fele MartÃnez.
The film premiered in Spain on October 3, 2002, and was released in theaters across the country eight days later on October 11, 2002. It was later sold to Miramax Films for American distribution, but ended up being put on hiatus for over a year; it was eventually released in theaters in an edited, PG-13-rated cut in the United States on December 25, 2004.

Disjointed and not scary at all. The mood is perfect. Unfortunately, this movie reminds me more of The Haunting, where very little happened.

Darkness attempts to be scary, but instead, ends up boring you until the end, where it confuses you.
A ridiculous ending to an awful film itself. D+

I had the great pleasure of screaning this movie with a few other managers the other night. Wow, all we did was make fun of the movie the entire time. This movie is a joke and isn't even worth the time of horror fans. F

It is a good movie, but I read about the cuts that were made and it does not surprise me that people don't like it as the cuts basically made it a different movie

The movie had no ending. People in my theater all started saying "boooo". Worst crowd reaction I've seen since The Village.

I read about what they cut. They basically re-cut the ending. Makeshift saw the original and so did I. I loved the ending and as far as I remember so did he. But after having read what they did in cutting, I am not surprised people disliked it. Personally, I found the original ending very haunting.

I liked the movie a lot. It was somewhat disjointed but still sets a great mood. The ending did leave a lot to desire though.
Dr. Lecter, what is the original ending? Could you hide the spoiler or PM me?

Thanks. Just got it.
For those who want to know, according to the PM Dr. Lecter sent me, both the original "uncut" ending and the US "cut" theatrical release ending are identical.

What makes the uncut version better, then? Blood? Because I thought the movie was actually alright until the last 30 minutes, and I don't think blood is that big of a deal for this movie.

I actually got to see the original version, and I must say, it wasn't all that great. I found it to be disappointing. So, I think I'll play it safe and not see an apparently worse flick. Usually I agree with Lecter, and I did jump quite a few times, but the plot never grabbed me at all. It felt a little bland most of the time.

I'm planning on buying the uncut version. I haven't seen the film yet but hear the uncut is so much better than the PG-13 cut.

Hmmm, I'm surprised to see so many people hating the movie here. I, myself, being a horror movies fan and after having been disappointed by many high-profile horror flicks in the recent past, found myself very positively surprised by this flick. I knew next to nothing about it, but the premise looked interesting and Anna Paquin is a good actress, so I decided to check it out. I surely was taken aback by it!
The gloomy atmosphere is pitch-perfect. The movie never gets really scary, but it remains very creepy most of the time. Its ending was great, one of the best of its kind that I have recently seen. Definitely worked for me. Not sure why so many hated it. It doesn't always need to end happily, ya know?
The acting was decent with no real highlights. The pacing was well-done. This is not a horror masterpiece, but a very entertaining little horror flick that ranks in the better half of the horror films I have seen in the past 4-5 years.
