Is Happy Feet a musical? Not saying it will win, but it might have decent music, no idea tho. >.<

Dreamgirls is the frontrunner.

I think we should still be considering Marie Antoinette for a Globe nom (and Kirsten will probably have her recognition in here)... I mean, even a critically panned movie like Patch Adams got in...

Predictions:
Borat
Dreamgirls
Little Miss Sunshine
Marie Antoinette
Stranger than Fiction

Alt: The Devil Wears Prada or Miss Potter (instead of Marie Antoinette)

Good, The Queen in Drama definitely gives it better Oscar chances than in Comedy, since if it lost to Dreamgirls and Meryl Streep it would've lost a lot of momentum. Meanwhile, losses in Drama/Dramatic Actress doesn't really affect its chances that much.

Although, if The Queen manages to get snubbed from a GG nomination in Drama, that'd be even worse.

They added a category for best animated film.

about time.

This will probably knock Cars off your comedy/musical list, though.

Actually I don't really like that because that'll give them an excuse to (almost) never nominate animated films for Comedy/Musical. Probably never actually, just like they never nominate Best Foreign films for Best Picture.

I think Stranger Than Fiction will get a nomination since I expect it to be nominated for Best Screenplay. In my opinion, I consider the film (which I just saw) to be of similar quality as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, and Groundhog Day.

I'm fairly certain that Alex and Lecter have got the comedy category down. I don't really see anything else breaking through in that category.

The question is what will win? Does Borat stand a chance?

Venus is running in the comedy category guys, I don't see how it won't get a nom over Stranger Than Fiction or The Holiday with the O'Toole push.

The win seems to be completley up in the air, heh. Dreamgirls, LMS, Venus, and Borat can all win.

Borat
Dreamgirls
Little Miss Sunshine
Venus
The Devil Wears Prada

Should be close between STF and Prada... Prada has the slightly higher RT score and the Streep/box-office boost, but it's ultimatley a light and fluffy comedy. STF has a higher average rating and higher fresh reviews average rating, and it's seemingly a more intelligent and intellectual film, in the vein of Kaufman. Maybe they can both get in if Borat or Venus is snubbed, but for now I give the edge to Prada because of Streep.

Ferrell should get his second straight GG nom by the way. I kind of wish Venus was in drama, Cohen vs Ferrell would be quite something, heh. Meryl Streep should easily win in the Best Musical/Comedy category for women, which would give her 5 in her career, which would tie her with Jack Nicholson assuming he doesn't go home with a trophy that night. O'Toole is at 3 so far, most likely going to be 4 after the night. Funny that the 3 most winningist GG-ers ever are going to be at the show, heh.

I heard O'Toole's being campaigned in Drama now. I assume that applies to the movie as well.

Whoa, if that's true...

Cohen vs Ferrell! Holy mother of god.

Cohen is all but assured to win Actor if O'Toole is out of that category. Best M/C is down to how good Dreamgirls is.

Let's assume Dreamgirls won't be all that jazz...does Borat stand a chance against Little Miss Sunshine in the category?

Well, it looks like Dreamgirls WILL be all that jazz, so this category probably belongs to it right now.

Also since GG now has a separate award for animated feature, getting nominated there will automatically disqualify the film from the Comedy/Musical category, so have to remove Happy Feet.

More from Tom O'Neil.

Since Volver is in foreign language, the film itself is ineligible for Best Musical/Comedy, but placing it there means there will be a real battle for Best Actress Musical/Comedy. And Abigail Breslin for lead? That's just weird, as if Jennifer Hudson needs more help.
