Tech categories would be justified. But the story is almost too cool for school to be considered Best Picture material.

Christian Bale kicks all sorts of ass in The Prestige, in a non-physical ass kicking sort of way.

The Prestige played for me a bit like that old Tales From The Crypt episode Cutting Cards.

If you have seen the Illusionist, is it better or worse? If you haven't seent the Illusionist, was it the best magic movie you have ever seen?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Illusionist (maybe this weekend).

there are three parts of a magic trick

The Pledge, where a magician shows his audience something ordinary, when it probably isn't.
The Turn, where the ordinary object does something extraordinary.
The Prestige, where the astonishment takes place as the audience cannot unravel a magician's secrets.

I'll hide the rest, it's not a spoiler really.

[spoil]I was able to guess the "prestige" (there are two actually) of well, The Prestige roughly one half hour at the very least before I should have. It doesn't make the film any less magical, any less magnificent. Just means I've been raised on the likes of The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects. Just means I'm too smart for my own good. I wish I was knocked out but I saw them coming a mile away. Maybe you will as well. The key to The Prestige is in its title. And remember, like all magic, it's mostly slight of hand. Mostly. [/spoil]

You should definately see the Illusionist, Edward Nortan as per usual is suberb. It'll be interesting to see how the two compare, I'm going to see The Prestige when it opens.

Who did better of Jackman/Bale (your opinion and preferably what you think most people's perspectives will be).

Really though, so far it seems Loyal is the only one that really came out and said anything beyond it's a great film, hell there isnt even much of that either.

It's Jackman's film (based on the structure of the story)...

BUT Bale carries most of the emotional weight on through its climax.

There's lots of give and take between the two.

So it sounds as though Bale is more supporting, why dont you think he's due for a supporting nod? Especially if he carries the films emotional weight
