As to the haircut, it makes him look more mature, he looks like a young man instead of a kid. And that fits his taking on more responsibility and feeling like he has to take charge. Besides, long hair is such a staple of fantasy novels and movies, that it's good to see a movie break out of the mold.
the guy on the right HAS to be mixed.
I also did not spot an Arab in that picture.

There are two Indian girls to Harry's left.
Yes, and there are no Aboriginal Australians in the picture. What is this, Harry Potter and the Affirmative Action?

I don't think they are book characters. More like extras. #15 is Dean Thomas, not Lee Jordan. Boy he grew, eh?

The kid next to Dean is Nigel, the "parcel for you, Mr. Weasley" student from Goblet of Fire.

These are my guesses
Michael Corner
Zacharias Smith
Ginny Weasley
Parvati Patil
Padma Patil
Weasley Twins
Cho Chang
Harry
Hermione
Ron
Luna
Nigel (non book character)
Dean
I think one is Corner because that was Ginny's boyfriend in that book. The other has to be Smith the one I think it is looks like he is him (I think that because he just looks full of himself). I think the pictures look amazing and I think Umbridge. Oh and there is a better pic of Luna now up
. Now she is just perfect for the part.

Um, huh? She's 16. She'll be done filming Harry Potter when she's 19. That's hardly killing her chances at college.

Looks great.
I can't wait for this movie, even though, like all of the post-Columbus Potter films, I'm still worried about the directorial abilities of David Yates (since he hasn't even directed a feature film before). But, then again, I was worried about the directing prowess of Cauron and Newell and their movies both turned out to be excellent.

Didn't one of his recent works just win an Emmy, though?
I really don't know Yates's work, so I'm keeping a "we'll see, either way" attitude about him.
What makes me THRILLED about this movie is the dropping of Steve Kloves and the hiring of Michael Goldenberg, who co-wrote the screenplay for the *awesome* 2003 "Peter Pan". He did a brilliant job with the adaptation of that play/book, so I'm quite eager to see his work in adapting HP to the screen.
Man, if only Kloves weren't coming back for HP6...
So, yeah, there are many in the HP movies that have become my mental images of HP characters as I read the books, but there are only a handful that *really* stand out, including Rickman/Snape, Isaacs/Lucius, and Branagh/Lockhart.
I can now say that Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood, even before actually seeing her act, is just about there on that list of actors who ARE their characters. On the visual side, she's downright *perfect*! Can't wait to see her acting chops!

Yeah Girl in a cafe won an emmy. His other movie State of play is considered amazing by people in England. I think he has the ability, sure this is the biggest movie he has ever directed but he will be fine since the same producer is working on it and he has a very experienced crew.

Probably, but I can't remember. I only remember the book saying his hair being unruly, and with the length it is at now, it can still be "unruly" (although in the film, his hair has usually always been fairly well made up most of the time anyways, so it doesn't really change anything).
I haven't read the books in awhile, but from what I remember, yes, his hair was long and unruly and he had bangs that always fell into his eyes. He didn't like short hair, either, from what I remember -- in the first book it talked about how (before he knew he was a wizard) he used to make his hair grow back overnight after getting haircuts. The haircut he has now just doesn't fit the character.

But that is so minor. I don't think Rowling cares and if she doesn't care why should we?
