 The Original Mockumentary?
I remember a line in Adaptation when Nick Cage (the brother) comes back from the screenwriters seminar and starts rambling on about how the first mockumentary ever was Intervista. Is that true? anyone know or can tell me how to go about finding out? It not that early, 1987, so that doesn't seem right at all. :?:

um...This Is Spinal Tap (1984) is a mockumentary, is it not? :?
edit:
imdb doesnt have a "plot keyword" for mockumentary, but it lists 174 "fake-documentaries," including Spinal Tap (84), Zelig (1983), and a bunch others l dont recognize...so, l'd say no...

All I know is that FubaR is one hell of a funny mockumentary. You people should really check it out. Amazing canadian trailer trash humor.

It may not really be the first but This is Spinal Tap is probably the first that was emulated.

Hmm, well if it's by Fellini and was mentioned in Adaptation, then I guess I'm going to have to seek it out.

I knew it sounded fishy. I'm going to have to drop Kaufman a note.
Intervista could not have been the first, but then again, whenever else will we ever be blessed with the sight of Federico, Marcello, and Anita, staring and waltzing in front of a projection of themselves in the Trevi from 30 years earlier?
Heh. So Reiner gets first with Spinal Tap? Anyone can think of an even earlier one? When was Man Bites Dog? That was sort of mockumentarish wasn't it?
