Run of the mill sports drama. The acting was only so-so, the dialog was cheesey as hell, calling for the audience (including myself) to burst out laughing during those parts that were supposed to be serious and sentimental. It's supposed to be based on a true story, but that doesn't help it from being just like every other feel good football movie, except just not as good.

I'm a sucker for a good sports drama, and while it's no Friday Night Lights or Remember the Titans, I thought it was very, very good on its own. The Rock did well. B+

I wanted to love this delinquent film, but it faltered even after I gave it many second chances.

The story is a great one, and deserves to be told, but maybe it shoulda been left to the original documentary which shows up in the end-credit clips. Not that I got anything against The Rock -- he does a fine job of throwin' the hairy eyeball, as always. But, dang it! The film is just not that technically well done. The editing is crap. The screenplay is lazy. The cinematography is uninspired. (Compare and contrast with last month's stellar Invincible.)

Still, the filmmakers clearly aced at least their Tear Jerker 101 class at film school, and after all -- it ain't rocket science, it's just a freakin' formula sport underdog genre entry, so as long as ya don't get all hoity-toity then there's no reason ya can't at least enjoy this film a little bit...

3 out of 5.

Loved the movie.

A-

It had great football action, nice little side stories about being able to turn kids around.

Amazingly the movie was really close to the actual happenings (They played clips from the documentary at the end of the movie)

Great football movie with a positive message, that even if you mess up, you can still turn it around.

Yeah, another good sports story. Started out a bit weak with the hood scenes and too many inspirational speeches, but it got better throughout, by the end I was cheering.

Dreadful, quite simply Dreadful.

I don't mind my movies loaded with cliche if they actually entertain me but Gridiron Gang was a complete black hole of entertainment. The characters were boring beyond belief and when a sports movie doesn't have that its in big trouble. The only good thing about this movie was the Rock but otherwise I almost fell asleep at points.
