Okay, sue me, I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. There is just something cool about the trailer. I know it looks corny and generic, but damn some of it just looks like a lot of fun.

Shit. And not a film you can laugh at (like The Wicker Man, I assume), which makes it even worse. It had a couple of cool scenes, but the film actually dragged for the most part.

It has sad that american cinema has sunk this low. I am sickend and very depressed that a huge reaking pile of shit has graced my movie theater. I can compare it to Hostel actually, instead of actuall porno in the first half, it is "hot" bad actors showing their asses and abs while making out. The second half is a pathetic attempt at a good vs evil super hero fight. And of course the only thing that was even close to scary was the occasional "sudden jump scene" with nothing that had to do with anything! I actually had some hope for this film, but now i am forevering boycotting this genere of teen-horror-powers flick! F!!!!!!

After these two reviews, I'm going to convince my sister to not watch this movie and instead go see Half Nelson. I hope i'm successful.

On the Patented Bradley Witherberry Grading System (PBWGS), I give The Covenant 1 out of 5.

I think bradley will give it like 4 out of 5. There's really not much to praise here, even for bradley.

Yup -- I'm not the biggest "horror" fan, and this just looked like the same old, same old.

I bet on The Protector this week (and lost  )...

It's technically an action/horror flick, like Blade or Underworld.

Though it has very little of both.

Very bland. Some stylish bits but very little to remind you that this is directed by a veteran director with decades of experience. It seriously resembles something done by a first-time director weaned on music videos. It had potential but didn't fulfill it, although Laura Ramsey is hot so it has that going for it anyway.

Grade - C

This one actually sounds interesting, but not for full price. I so wish we had a dollar theatre in my area. Then i would go to see more movies.

When walking out of the packed theater of one person (Me), I was trying to come up with a way to justify what I just saw to keep it from getting an F, something that I rarely hand out. I first thought of the acting. I couldn't come up with anything. Even though they were working from a shitty script, and seem to be first time actors, every line they speak is just flat out phoney. The only person who I thought did a somewhat decent job was the kid who played Caleb, but even I admit that would be a stretch.

Then I thought about the directing. That didn't help persuade me one bit, especially since this is coming from Renny Harlin. He hasn't made a decent film in awhile now, and the only thing that made Mindhunters watchable was the fact that it didn't take itself too seriously. As for this movie, he makes the finished product look like it was directed by an 18 year old director who just happened to come across the use of CGI. And what the fuck was with all the fog? I blame it on Harlin for trying to set a mood, and the only reason why I point it out is it is distracting only because it's trying to set a mood.

Then I thought about the script. Pure shit. The thing that bothered me most was that we have seen these stereotypical teenagers before (In the dictionary, under the definition of redundant is redundant) and there is no attempt whatsoever to change them. We have seen all these settings before. And, we have even seen the very ending (The fight) before. It's pathetic. Not to mention one minor thing that bugged me. Why did Caleb's mother tell him his father was dead when they both know (And each know that the other knows) that he is in fact not dead? I guess it just must have been a plot point the filmmakers overlooked in the second and final draft of the script. And the father serves no purpose whatsoever except for the very ending. There's an interesting story tucked away there somewhere about why the father used his powers so much, but does the film try and discover them? No.

And then finally I thought, for a film that takes place in Massachusetts, how bad can it be? Although most people will not notice, there is not one shot of the film that took place in the state. There is not one scene in the film that looks like it took place in Massachusetts. As far as I know, there also aren't any giant cliffs in Massachusetts either. And do the actors even attempt a Massachusetts accent? No. The lead actress even mispronounces the town the entire film is taking place! Now I understand for budgetary reasons, they probably couldn't shoot the film in Massachusetts, but for christ's sake, give me a piece of stock footage of Gloucester (Shouldn't be too hard since The Perfect Storm shot there), Ipswich, or even Boston to remind the audience that the film takes place in Massachusetts. The only way people can tell is from the license plates (Which is the only thing they got right) and the incorrect police markings.

Looking back, there is not one thing I liked or enjoyed about the film, except for the experience of being in complete privacy.

F

It was kind of horrible. What I don't get was when the bad guy kissed caleb... I was like wtf? They made no mention of it before or afterwards. It was just weird. And everyone looked like Ryan Phillippe (sp?) but with crappier acting.

Stinking Pile of Crap.

Holy cow.

The writing was bad. I mean honestly near the end of the movie, before hero boy goes to fight evil guy, in a exchange with the female lead she states: "I'm scared" With such lifeless emotion. It was crap.

And the way they left it un-ended like that? Like there is going to be a sequel of this crap? Just kill the guy already.

Only 2 cool things about the movie: Blonde girl can't act, but shes a looker.

and the way the car blew up slow motion..then put back together. that was kind of cool.

Good lord.

What action? What horror? I didn't see much of either. This was just one big mess more than anything else.
