I don't know about Jackson but New Line execs will certainly have a few four letter words to say about this weekend.

The interenet is why this movie will even have over 10m total, New Line's marketing didnt do shit to get the general public in the seats

Now that I agree with. It's like they didn't even bother to market it, instead relying completely on the so-called "viral marketing" to do the work for them. New Line really dropped the ball on this. They didn't even attempt to get the general public interested in the movie. The trailer was terribly put together and the TV spots were almost non-existent. New Line usually does a good job marketing their films but I can't help but wonder if it would have done better with Lionsgate in charge of marketing. They're very good at marketing horror-thriller type films.

blah, I'm really hoping for another Talladega Nights here. Ratio obviously won't be that low, but anything over $10M would be great.

It had a low # of reviews and everyone was predicting around $13-14M, but then it surprised and made $18M opening day.

So, do the Yahoo! figures point to SoaP doing six to seven-point-five million Friday?

It happened with Miami Vice and Step Up, too. It happens a lot because most of our crowd reports are from similar areas, and we don't really have a Scott V. or notfabio in the east coast (I think?) that can give us good comparisons.

Hopefully it'll do better than what we're looking at now.

I don't see how SOAP can make anything over $4M on friday...
If you look at IMDb there are only fake ratings which means the ration is bound to be very high.

Full analysis:

A miserable day for Snakes on a Plane. Even with clogging, it never had a breakout hour that was expected for such an Internet driven film. The biggest hour had 162 reviews. The number of written reviews is also insanely high (more than 1/2 of the overall number), so a lower-than-expected ratio is unlikely. A generous ratio of 220-250 will give it $5.5-6.3m for Friday, but I won't be surprised to see an even lower number.

Material Girls finished 2nd in term of raw number of reviews. However, movies targeted at teenage girls tend to have high ratios. The high percentage of written reviews also points to the same conclusion. With the change Yahoo is undergoing, a ratio of 200 is considered the high end, and it will put the film's Friday at $2.0-2.3m.

Accepted only had about 300 reviews for the day, but the number of written reviews is very low as well, meaning a low ratio is in store. Last year, such a film normally has a ratio between 100 and 120. Currently, it should translate to 80-90, which yields $3.3-3.8m.

They seem to resolve some cloggings during the past several hours, so we can use these as final numbers:

Snakes on a Plane 1628, +259, B
Material Girls 1075, 544 Friday, +81, B-
Accepted 372, 366 Friday, +69, B

My Projections:

Snakes: $6.5M
Material Girls: $$2.5M
Accepted: $4.0M

A terrible day for Snakes, and a disappointing finish for Accepted.

You know what i have realized that when movies are not doing as well as expected people start hating them.

happened with king kong, superman returns and now snakes on a plane.

BUT belive me guys this movie will have good legs.

The theatre i was in LOVED and clapped for the movie when it was over.

Exactly.

For instance, my crowd turned into angry mob, and demolished the whole theater and surroundings yelling "Kill all snakes!!". They couldn't find any though.
