Over the past several days, I have come to witness several "flame wars" between two very distinct and (to me) very important groups of people at this board: the Star Wars fans, and the Lord of the Rings fans. I should probably say pro-LOTR fans, and anti-LOTR fans, but whatever. It's the flame wars I'm focusing on.

Ignoring the fact that the debates themselves are overdone, old, and redundant, I'd like to focus everyone's attention on a more glaring aspect of the wars. For instance:

The thread means well....as well as a BKB thread CAN mean. And the normal arguments were called out. But then I saw something that I haven't seen in these debates before.

All of these are just a handful of likewise posts in the same manner.

I ask you all exactly what level of self-loathing has made you resort to such petty comments and argumentation? Is it the new forum maybe? I didn't see this happen quite as often back on BOM. I'm seeing it more and more here, at World of KJ. I know there are more lax rules here. Could that be it: the fact that authority is more loose?

Or maybe we've just run out of steam....the LOTR and Anti-LOTR and Anti-Fanboys have all run out of ideas and arguments, so the idea of a simple mindless falme seems like a good diea, to ensure that you 'win.'

But I like to think that we've simply lost the civilization and dignity that used to be a dominating presence at this community. More and more, in and out of fanboy arguments, I'm seeing more immaturity; I'm seeing more nonsense. For those that used to go to BOM, I really did love the community there, albeit for a few misfits and oddballs. But every day I come here, I lose the same magical draw that once drew me to this place.

I make this thread as a plea to everyone. Whatever happened to maturity? Whatever happened to dignified debates? I plead to everyone to converse and argue with maturity and dignity, or we will become nothing more than a second-rate internet message board.

Everyone? Seems to me it is, as it has always been, a specific group. It's not as if BKB is going to change anytime soon. I thought everyone already knew what one person or the other though.

I do know what you mean Sommie. I'm all for flame wars taking place but not at such a personal level. If only people can follow that.

I'm sure I'm gonna be called out on some major fanboy trolling as much as i point out that i'm not a fanboy to begin with but there are some people on this board that NEED to stop trolling on the lotr subject. It is becoming extremely annoying.

1) Terminator:
Yes, we get the point you do not like LOTR. Its quite ok. My girlfriend hates them too. But in 2 specific threads that I've come across recently, all I've seen is you repeating the same thing again and again that had absolutely nothing to do with the quality of LOTR but completely other matters. Either stick to the subject and reply back accordingly, else I can see a board full of people blasting anything they feel like just because a movie is not their cup of tea, even at those things that do not warrant complaint

b) Bkb.
Yes, you were blasting the sequels there. But in the past month, i did notice 2 things you were responsible for. An entirely ridiculus dvd thread where you claimed that jackson is releasing some extended dvd with only 6 minutes of new footage (which was really a preview trailer) and that hes milking people by making 2 dvds (which once again, everyone has been aware of since the fotr days). The second time was with the comments towards raziel (dick hanging in mouth thing).
Yes, you do not like lotr either. We understand. You enjoy spiting people, i understand that too. but a completely unneccassary thread and a not so deserving comment were NOT required. I mean, you dont enjoy batman begins either but atleast you're cool about it ...

Sorry for explicitly naming people. but i was forced to. There are a couple of more things i would wish to add but i wont because i was taken into confidence on them. needless to say, i do know of a few threads created recently that were partly started with the intention of flame baits for LOTR fans.

Nah. I like emotional people but as someone who is seriously conscious of virility discourse, the dick jokes just get way too out of hand. I don't mind if someone calls someone a studip idiot, that quite different than cracking jokes about cum being shot in the eyes and blow jobs.

I think sommie makes a good point about it, and I can't believe how mature some of the younger members here are at times.

He's not demanding they be banned or editted he's just saying people need to remember its a movie. I can fight andaroo on dead man and chicago 'til kingdom come I'm still not going to crack some aggressive penis jokes at him and though i can't speak for him, thus far its not like he's done that to me either. so make of Insommies suggestion as you wish...

I don't see anything wrong with having a little fun, or with a little bit of strife rearing it's head now and again. It can make things interesting. It's cool that most people are nice to eachother, and even debate nicely, but As long as it doesn't cross the line. (i.e. When a member who you've made to look like an ass in front of the boards, starts following you around from thread to thread trying to start arguments about every comment you make, and starts obsessing just a little too much over your opinions on a movie, so that it starts dictating their daily plans.)

I wouldn't want everybody to agree, and I wouldn't want everybody to conform to one personality. I just think all parties need to realize where the line is that shouldn't be crossed is located. Personal attacks, such as starting threads for no other reason than to insult a member, is one such instance of crossing the line. It's taking things way too serious. Name calling can be avoided if you try.

Raziel was involved in both arguments, he has a history of starting trouble, , he has a history of trolling Star Wars threads, and he even started a thread with intent to insult, and no other purpose.

How was he not at fault enough to be mentioned with the others? He was more at fault, and it's not just a coincidence that he's always involved in arguments. It wouldn't have anything to do with him being PRO LOTR would it?

I like to think I'm just absolutely full of little surprises...

a) Bkb started that first completely unneccassary thread. raziel replied to it. And as much as people dont like it, he answered back with points.

b) Bkb involved raz in the other thread without raz even saying anything. And like I told you yesterday, if someone passed a comment about me running in with someone's dick in my mouth or if those comments would have been towards you, both of us would have reacted very much in the way raz did there as well.

Which is why i've chosen to be selective about who i named. this has little to do with being bias towards lotr fanboys and less towards those who don't like them ..


and before you say it, if lotr fanboys came in to spite star wars fans, i would call them out on that too.
