This was far better than Shark Tale and Madagascar. Also, the First Flight cartoon was just plain beautiful (could this be an Oscar contender).
As for the movie, good storytelling and characters.
Grade Movie: A- Flight: A What's the Flight cartoon you speak of? There wasn't a short film shown before it where I saw it. The last such occurrence was the "Gopher Broke" short I saw before Doogal (Better than the film itself although it copies Ice Age's Scrat).
It was only shown on 400 prints of Over the Hedge, and they are only shown in LA and NY.

It was soooooooo cute.
And it's really nice to see a quality animated movie after suffering through Robots, Shark Tale and Madagascar. B+

I'm feeling like I'm swimming against the mainstream a lot these days.
Don't know how I feel about that.

Don't worry, I know the feeling - just remember, you're swimming away from the waterfall...

This one really surprised me! Utterly fantastic, the best 'kids film' since the incredibles. Hammy is quite probably the funniest character ever, i haven't laughed so hard in a long long time.

I thought that by and large the film was pretty clever, and it's much better then all these horrid CGI films that studios have been excreting lately. Definitely closer to Pixar or Shrek territory. B+
I will say though that I found Hammy to be an irritating, completely one-note character. He only had a single line that I didn't cringe at, and it was maybe the only one not played for laughs. Thank god he didn't have any more screen time then they gave him, I just don't get how everyone is so enamoured over a character who did nothing but act hyper and make gross noises.

That was really cute, very funny and quite clever! I loved the story, the characters especially Hammy he was the best of the bunch.
Hopefully Dreamworks continues to make great animated films like this one.

Occasionally funny but really just another clichéd, heartwarming, mediocre animated flick. I liked a lot of the voice work and the animation, but the story doesn't really set out to do anything more than hammer home its message. Plus there weren't a lot of witty jokes - it was mostly just slapstick, which, apart from being executed well, got to be a bit much. There were a few moments that shown through as comic brilliance, but they were few and far between. I thought Steve Carell did the best work by far. Is there anything this guy can't do?

It's fun and it's mostly funny. The animation is okay, ntohing special and I wouldn't say that it's a great flick, but it's enjoyable enough and certainly much better than the likes of Open Season, Robots or The Wild. Hammy pretty much steals the show from all other characters here. I think it was a bit too clichéd in parts, but there were also some truly enjoyable moments to be had.

 Re: Over the Hedge
It's decent. An improvement over the Shrek sequels and Madagascar, which were pretty painful. Gary Shandling has the charisma of a box of Q-Tips, but all of the other voice actors did pretty well. Bruce Willis did great. The opening bit with RJ trying to get the chips from the vending machine was brilliant. There were a few lulls in the movie, and few really laugh out loud moments (aside form Hammy) but overall it was consistently cute and much of the humor did the job.

 Re: Over the Hedge
Over the Hedge isn't too ambitious, but it achieves its goal of being a creative and fun heist comedy for kids, with great vocal performances, compelling characters, and a lack of schmaltz.
