Hm, yeah. Most of these ads come from insider magazines, though, so I'm assuming they're posting what they can get.
And on an interesting note, Mel Gibson has decided not to campaign The Passion this awards season. http://www.oscarwatch.com/ (bottom of the page)

As it stands right now, Sideways is the best reviewed film of the year.
Eternal Sunshine, Before Sunset, The Incredibles, Maria Full of Grace and such movies are pretty much tied for second.
You can't really look at the Rotten Tomatoes score to decide what the best reviewed movies of the year is, because it can be pretty misleading.
Has anyone seen an FYC ad for Maria Full of Grace now that Catalina Sandino Moreno is gaining major buzz (I said she'd be contender way back in July or August )

Nope, sorry, not yet or at least not at oscar-watch with the 60+ ads already...
And you say she is now gaining MAJOR buzz? Really? From where? I ahve only heard her name mentioned once in the past month or so concerning Oscar. Though I think she was never forgotten and she does have a shot at a nod, as I stated in my posts recently, but where is this major buzz coming from?

Bryce Dallas Howard was pretty much the only good thing about The Village and I wouldn't mind seeing her nominated, but it ain't gonna happen.

Well, it looks like Cate Blanchett is officially being campaigned in the supporting actress category for The Aviator.

WOW, 'CLOSER' is going on full force.... I would not be suprised if the whole cast is nominated, a first if not of all time thne of the past many decades!
O Man you got to love that Before Sunset ad.... I watched the movie for the third time last night and I just love it... It's truly a cinematic masterpiece!
Where are the Kill Bill ads??
And what is up with the incredible amount of 'A Very Long Engagement' ads??? They have like 5-6 of them already and the movie isn't out yet or it comes out 2mor0, make that today (12:30am)

I have a feeling that A Very Long Engagement will miss out because of Mar Adentro.

I don't think EITHER will be nominated as it stands...
A Very Long Engagement I heard is a very long movie, plus foreign and it hasn't been building substabntial buzz leading to its opening. And reviews have been mostly good and great, but not amazing and glowing.
Mar Edentro is The Sea Inside isn't it?
Well, it seems too small to really get a best pic nomination. Plus, it also has the language barrier to overcome and almost all the buzz (which isn't on par with say Kinsey or the gaining Rwanda) is for Javier Bardem for Best Actor and not really the film. I know many people on these boards have been saying how good it is and ho it will get a best pic nod, but I just don't see it happening. I may not even see Javier Bardem getting in the Best Actor race!

It is "campaigning while pretending not to campaign". What's important is that it was a big ad with the score highlighted.. it is only missing "For Your Consideration".
The Passion of the Christ campaign is simple... create noise by doing a lot of articles proclaiming that you are above the Oscars or you don't really see the need from them, and reminding people that "Well, you could nominate this film, because we're really earnest and it is not an Oscar-bait film".
It's an anti-campaign, but it is still campaigning.

BTW, I really hope Jeff Gibbs gets nominated for Fahrenheit score. That was an amazing score.

To answer your question (Not because you were necesarilly asking, but because I'm bored) lol...In 1981, Reds was nominated in all 4 categories. It was the last to do so. Coming Home did it in 1978 and Network did it in 76 (It got 5 and won 3). The Godfather: Part II got 5 nods in 74. Terms of Endearment got 4 acting nods as did Kramer vs. Kramer, Julia, The Turning Point, Rocky, The Godfather, and The Last Picture Show. That's all the way back to 1969, but I don't have time to look any further right now.

Or were you just meaning where the entire cast is nominated, not where four of the stars were? Ah, all that work for nothing, but it was fun.

The Spanglish ad is pretty funny. I know many people are blasting Spanglish's Oscar chances, but it's going to appeal to many people. I was watching trailers online one night and my wife watched the Spanglish trailer. She has ZERO interest in film awards (which is why I talk to you all so much) but her response was "I've got to see that!" It's going to have a lot of appeal to soccer moms, middle-aged women, etc. If you don't think they can make a film (even a mediocre one) successful, just look at My Big Fat Greek Wedding and almost any romantic comedy by Sandra Bullock.

Those are some great ads, really good ones including Million Dollar Baby, Sideways, and Fahrenheit 9/11.
but the most powerful ad to date is Vera Drake's.....
Whoever has seen that movie can't deny the impact that picture has on you. It immediately reminded me of her brilliant BRILLIANT performance...
What a shot!!!
