 Taking Lives
Taking Lives Quote: Taking Lives is a 2004 psychological thriller film starring Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke. The film was marketed with the tagline "He would kill to be you."
The original music score was composed by Philip Glass and the main title's theme was composed by Austrian Walter Werzowa, best known for the Intel jingle and his work in the band Edelweiss. The film was loosely adapted from a 1999 thriller novel by Michael Pye of the same title. Meh. C

Predictable, cliched, some plot holes, and has an absolutely atrocious, ATROCIOUS, as-bad-as-it-gets performance from Olivier Martinez (yes its pick on Olivier day).
Yet I kinda liked it, maybe cause it has the suspense, which is something not many suspense movies have. Some pretty creepy scenes to.

Angelina Jolie is a great actress, but really bad at picking roles since Girl, Interrupted. I'm a sucker for serial killer films, but this is a truly average one. Absolutely predictable from the beginning to the end, yet mildly entertaining. One scene made me jump, though. Kiefer Sutherland was as good as always.

Pretty good thriller. All of the actors are good here, with the exception of Oliver Martinez who is just horrid. It had a few scares, and the story is interesting enough. I didn't see the twist at the ending coming though, very smart and original.

Trash. The only thing that would have made it more predictable was if Ashley Judd had been cast instead of Angelina Jolie. My grade: D.

An entirely mediocre thriller that relies mainly on jump scares and implausible twists to build suspense. The opening sequence, before the credits, is quite intriguing, but it only leads into a poorly written, poorly acted, Se7en rip-off. Still, despite some truly bad acting and some terrible dialogue, the suspense does build throughout the film, and the story gradually grows with it, until it becomes at least interesting, if overtly familiar and predictable. The first twist at the end is easily guessable, but makes for a very graphic scene in an elevator. The final twist is actually quite shocking when you first see it, but really doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you think about it. It certainly ends the movie with a bang, though.
The only actor here who seems to rise above the material is Kiefer Sutherland, and he's barely in the film, which is too bad. Angelina Jolie is fine until her sex scene, where she acts like a porn star. Ethan Hawke is decent until the end, when he's just plain bad. And all of the French actors are pretty bad. There are a few scary scenes, mostly due to the aforementioned jump scares, and the story becomes somewhat interesting, but there are too many plot holes, too many inconsistancies for the end twists to make much sense at all. Below average thriller.

While not a miracle of moviemaking, this one at least wound the thriller genre all the way out to it's (pleasantly) illogical conclusion! The story of the "human hermit crab" is really quite spiffy. Plus, I enjoy Angelie Jolie (unlike the Jolie-haters who seem to be very vocal about it) as an actress, especially when she finds a way, like in this movie, to get her top off. Also Ethan Hawke is almost always good, and is very good here yet again. Not to mention it's set in Quebec, actually playing the role of Quebec this time out! And one more thing - after Salton Sea, that makes two pretty darn good weirdo features for director D.J. Caruso.
4 out of 5.

Pretty by the numbers thriller with what has to be the most unexpected sex scene (flow wise) I have ever seen in a movie.

So I guess I'm the only one who really likes this movie. I thought it was a very tense thriller, and Hawke does a good job with his role. I just had a fun time watching it.

I agree. It seems like the only reason it was there was to lead in to the twist ending. And to see Angelina's tits, of course.
