None at all.
Man, the terrorists should have tried smuggling the snakes on those plane, then the film would have opened to $50+ million, heh.

Dont celebrate too early, I remember your comment about congratulating Dr Lecter on an early victory against me and that movie was MI3

I'm not certain SOAP will open to 10 million or more opening day. Of course I want it to but I could see a take of 7-9 million as well. Really hoping for more though. I'd really like to see an opening weekend of 25 million+.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Snakes get just under $10 m from midnights.
But realistically, I'm seeing $40 m + opening weekend.

O, outside of the Internet, do you sense a lot of buzz for this? I think a lot of people will be disappointed come Sunday, and I believe it will be those who think SOAP is going to be some behemoth. Huge theater count, but only a respectable opening in the low 20's, IMO.

Here's something I found online regarding the likely trailers playing before the film:
Snakes on a Plane
Tenacious D (attached) - New Line
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Prequel (enclosed) - New Line
Borat - Fox
Covenant - Sony
Crank - Lionsgate
Idlewild - Universal
Deja Vu - Buena Vista
Any thoughts on it?

Well, considering it cost only 35 million anything 20 and over would be fantastic.

And they're all going to see it opening weekend. Be prepared for the shortest legs of the year.
OW: 39 M
SW: 16 M
TW: 6.5 M
TR: 82 M (if even...I'm being generous. School starts)
Its going to plummet its third weekend when even the fanboys have seen it twice and realize there's not much there.

If it does those type of numbers New Line would be dumb not to greenlight a sequel pronto.

Paramount Vantage is also asking for BLACK SNAKE MOAN in key markets, WB is asking for either
DEPARTED or BEERFEST depending on the chain. Universal is also asking for LET'S GO TO PRISON at some
chains.

They are both sooooooooo excited.

Is there any female interest in this? I've heard sporadic interest from women in Snakes, and I can't figure out why. It's obviously not the core demo, but it could be the difference between a $25M opener and a $30M opener.

Apparently Variety says it's tracking for a high-teens opening.

Ghostooze wrote: Libs wrote: Apparently Variety says it's tracking for a high-teens opening. day or weekend? Uh? Weekend... Edit: The full article does say this, though: Variety wrote: Internet buzz: What is it good for? After over six months of parody trailers, blog debates and mainstream press articles about the online hype, New Line will find out what it all means for the bottom line as "Snakes on a Plane" opens this weekend.
Pic is tracking like a normal late-summer horror film, which would indicate a bow in the high teens. But studio is hoping all the hype and buzz could translate into something much bigger, possibly as high as the 30s.
"I'm not sure you can track this movie," said New Line distribution prexy David Tuckerman. "Nobody can ever remember a film that has been like this. Since the beginning, we've just been trying to catch up with it."
Main competition this weekend is Universal's slacker comedy "Accepted," which is also going after a teenage aud but has the benefit of a PG-13 rating vs. an R for "Snakes."
One good sign for "Snakes": Intense exhibitor interest helped New Line book it at 3,555 playdates, very wide for a horror film.
Few doubt that theaters will be packed with the faithful -- mostly young males and some older males -- on Friday and for latenight shows Thursday.
Bigger question is whether good word of mouth will spread after hardcore fans finally get to see the film, convincing a broader aud that "Snakes" is more than an Internet oddity.
New Line isn't making the movie available for review before it opens.
Tuckerman said he's most hopeful that teenage girls, who often help drive a horror pic's success but aren't showing up in tracking for "Snakes," will be a key component in its opening weekend.
Current record holder for an August horror opening is "Freddy vs. Jason," which made $36.4 million in 2003.

According to the commercials, it's the most anticipated movie of the year. I don't see how it can fail to open with 140+

Just got back from seeing it. Let me say, it was a blast. The movie mixes humor with jump scares and gore to good effect and Sam Jackson anchors it the way only he can, lending authority to the film.
The 550 seat Ultrascreen was sold out as well with the ushers handing out Snakes on a Plane posters, soundtracks, and popcorn to everyone as they entered. The theatre made it up to be something of an event and it paid off, with people cheering basically everytime SLJ killed a snake and especially when he said the line everyone knows by now. Some actually stood up and cheered during that part. Overall, a very fun movie and definitely one I'd see again, maybe tomorrow in fact.
