Really, it didn't have the melodrama of other dysfunctional family entries such as The Squid and the Whale -- which by the way I also loved, or the depressing darkness of films such as Bee Season -- I was mixed on that one. Instead, Little Miss Sunshine was hillarious, charming, and, even heartwarming all at once. It really was quite a good movie, and I got to stay for Q&A with the two directors afterwards, so I learned so more about the film. Anyway, I'm going to give it an A and say thus far its my favorite of the year. If the entire movie is only half as charming and funny as the dinner scene in the trailer, I'm sold.
Wait till you hear what "Olive" says when asked where her grandfather is during the beauty pageant.

Good to know! He gives everything a good grade..... Hence why I've given 1 "F", 2 "D"s and 3 "C"s out of the 35 films I've seen this year. Then I have 2 "A"s and 6 "A-"'s Out of 35 films, you have given 83% a grade of B or higher... I stand corrected.
83% a B- or higher which to me is average. B-/B is average, B+ is good. A-/A is above average.

Its got alot of reviews for a limited distribution flick that has yet to officially open. Almost 30 reviews, and only two rotten. This is excellent. I've noticed they've been quite strong with advanced screeners throughout the country, so they're looking to develope word of mouth. That will make for a particularly big opneing this weekend. The pta on this will break 20,000+ even if it opens in 50 theatres. Does anyone know its theatre count?
Can't wait!

7 theaters and nearly $10,000 pta for both Wednesday and Thursday. Should break $30,000-$40,000 for the weekend.
Here's to $20 million +...!

I was so worried you wouldn't like it.
So, details. What did you like the best?

My favorite scene was the "ice cream" scene, which I think is made pretty obvious in my review, heh.

Were you at the screening at the Montreal AMC at 7? Because if so, we were totally in the same room together. Which is weird.
Anyways, the film was excellent. Really, really charming and hysterically funny. The entire theater was dying of laughter througout the movie.

I want to see it again. I might have to go see it on the 9th at the final Atlanta preview showing.

My review, copied from the "Everyone's A Critic" forum:

Yeah, uh-huh, you guessed it... I fell hard for Little Miss Sunshine!!!
Outstanding piece of writing, this screenplay. Perfect acting. Beautiful direction.
I out-and-out loved it.
8 out of 5.
(No matter which movies I've promised a 2006 top ten list spot to, none of 'em are bumping Little Miss Sunshine - a gem among minerals...)
