Good numbers all around, not very exciting though, these weekend was easy to pin. I knew the Ant Bully would bomb, good number for MV, I figured it wouldnt make much more than Collateral. Pirates should be able to squeeze over 20 million. Suprising somewhat for Monster House, it might drop almost 50% from last week. John tucker looks to be in the 16 million range, very good breakout success in my book.
I think Superman will finish the weekend at #10 knocking off Clerks II, which is a shame after one week. Im still hoping for a 30 million total.

$14,000 PTA for Friday...
So should hit $40,000 for the weekend easily.

I really can't believe Ant Bully did so poorly...You'd think it could at least crack a 12 million weekend...

I had a feeling that it would....marketing showed up way too late, we've seen ants in CGI before, and IMO it looked terrible.

Well looks like Michael Mann has problems when the budget is 100 or 100 +.

I don't see why it's such a surprise. In my world I saw one trailer for it and no advertising.

When Monster House underperformed from high $20's expectations, and opened to $22 m, there was little possiblity of Bully going past $15 m + imo. And now Barnyard is even more in the hole. While it could outopen Ant Bully, the studios, I hope learned a valuable lesson from this.
Sony: Monster House ($75 m budget), Final Fantasy being their only other released CG animated film so far. It is not looking good for them right now, but they have Open Season, and Surf's Up next.
WB: Ant Bully. They had success with The Polar Express, but that was a holiday movie, and much less a credit to their animation department. Next they have Happy Feet, and Ninja Turtles. If Cars couldn't do $250 m, Ice Age 2 couldn't do $200 m, and Over The Hedge just breaks $150 m, I don't see Happy Feet doing as big as some here think it will, cg animated films are just getting oversaturated.
Barnyard: Paramount. All they've really done is Jimmy Neutron. Thank goodness Paramount will have DW's titles though....
Also, we just reached the midpoint of CG animated films this year with Monster House! We've had 7 before Ant Bully, and will have 5 after Ant Bully. So if this is how it is, with Ant Bully as the 8th film this year, how will Happy Feet, being the THIRTEENTH, and last CG animated film (2nd in November). I know it will have one of the best release dates of the year, but if the big companies like Pixar, and DW are feeling CG animation fatigue, I think Happy Feet will too.

I hate these numbers. Why does JT Must Die have to make so much? That alone makes the entire weekend numbers horrible, for me.
PEACE, Mike.

Yeah, Ant Bully was pretty much dumped. No real effort behind it.
The Friday increases were generally small.

Pirates made $5.877 m on Friday. If it follows last weekend's pattern, and then has that same drop in its weekday figures, with ___% drop for the weekends after, it will have a total of:
70% drops: $380.46 m
65% drops: $383.8 m
60% drops: $387.6 m
55% drops: $392. 1 m
50% drops: $397.6 m
45% drops: $404.3 m
40% drops: $412.6 m
35% drops: $423.3 m
30% drops: $437.6 m
So considering its gotten 40-45% drops so far, aside from its 2nd weekend, it should at worst I think get to $405 m. But with a weaker 2nd half of the summer than expected which will eventually lead to more 35% ish drops, and a stronger Labor Day bump, it could get closer to $420-430 m or so. If it finishes in the higher range, I think Disney will push this as hard as they can, past ET, and TPM. But Shrek 2 definitely seems like a stretch down.
Also, $400 m is all but assured I think. It would need to have worse than 50% drops for the rest of its run to get there, but considering its 3rd and 4th weekend drops, I don't see that happening.

I told you all Ant Bully would BOMB.
LADY IN THE WATER -68% = Gigli 2 (IMO)
I saw Pirates Friday night at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, CA. I wandered into the 7pm show for LITW and there were EIGHT people in it! This is FRIDAY night people!
Pirates had about 130 people. Monster House seemed to be doing well, about 50 people in the 6:00pm show, and DWP was selling LOTS of tickets for the 7:15pm show!

Glad Miami Vice still pulled an $8 million opening day. It was looking really bad last night, but it should still make around $23-24 million this weekend. Tucker did quite well. Ant Bully never really got a push.
Pirates, hmm, another $20 million weekend. Didn't a few people say that it'll be lucky to make that this weekend? Yeeah.

Not that surprised for Ant Bully.
I'll echo what people are saying about the advertising, plus people are probably sick of CGI right now.

In 538 theaters that is a $1,611 pta. pretty horrendous if you ask me. I had no idea it was even opening this weekend until yesterday.

who says pirates did bad it increased 57% on friday. With a 50% Saturday rise to 8.85 million and 27% drop to sunday to 6.47 millon will give a weekend of 21 million.
pirates gets a 20 million 4th weekend and will pass JP. It should pass Passion, spiderman 2,rotk next weekend and may even pass rots as well by next sunday.
