had it been released before polanski fucked a 14 year old girl and fled from the usa, i am sure it would have won.

the fact that it was a foreign movie, and not backed up by the powerful and corrupt influence of studio bosses like the weinstein fuckers, didnt help it either. miramax would win the oscar any year with such a film.

No way ROTK or Titanic would have beaten Schindler's List, i think SL remains the only film to sweep every BP award.

Would win:Schindlers list
Should win: Schindler's list

Schindler's would have won, no question, even against The Pianist. The thing about Schindler's is at the time you were virtually not allowed to find flaws with it much less dislike it. If you attempted to judge it as what it was, a movie, people looked at you funny as if you just did a Nazi salute.

I'm speaking about which film would win, not necessarily which should win, and I think that Schindler's List would most certainly win, because of the subject matter of the film and it's "importance" alone. It was just regarded in that way, and would have to be rewarded over Titanic and Lord of the Rings, no matter how good they are regarded if they were up too.

PEACE, Mike.

I agree with most everyone else. Schindler's List would win.

As for The Pianist winning, I think it would have won had it been released before Schindler's List. Polanski being a child molester wouldn't affect it as he won director.

Having not seen Schindler's List, and still understanding what an social impact Titanic had when it was released, I'll say Return of the King because it was a great film and The Academy would award it Best Picture to cover the entire trilogy. Schindler's List, I think, would be dominated by these two juggarnauts, and while not forgotten, be overlooked.

Schindler's List would probably win but I would say it would be a tough choice between that and Titanic. ROTK would have no chance because it is 1) an epic(both are too) 2) fantasy(not a oscar favorite) and 3) box office gross(titanic kicks its ass).

Schindlers list has everything going for it except for box office so I would say List.
