There tweren't a lotta payin' customers @ my opening night screening -- so I wouldn't hold out much hope for big BO #'s on this great movie...

(Oh well -- it's their loss -- this one'll be plenty appreeciated down the road -- it's easily the best superhero film of 2006 (...and I loved X3!))

The Superhero parody was already done fantastically with Pixar's The Incredibles so it's not original.

The Incredibles was hardly a parody, and far from fantastic -- Try Sky High if you're looking for a reasonably arguable precedent...

Incredibles was a parody of sorts and was really funny as well. Sky High was crap. It was way too cheesy for its own good.

This coming from someone who likes almost everything. I've seen so many movies I am starting to tire of cliched films, especially romantic comedies which are all basically the same.

Not just lots, but every wide release in the last 4 freaking years. That's more than even most people here see.

I couldn't find the "How many movies did you see in the theatre in 2005" thread, but I doubt you saw nearly as many as I did last year, nor in the past 10 years, for that matter...

;)

I don't post in those threads usually. They're rather pointless. With Netflix and theatres, I probably see over 500 movies per year, maybe more. You probably have seen more in the past decade, considering I'm only 21 years old and didn't watch many movies when I was 11 ;)

I'm honestly sorry about the "tiredness" you report - I hope you can shake it off and return to the excitement that got you to be a film lover to begin with...

(PS: My suggestion of one cure would be to cut back on the DVD's, and see more movies in crowded theatres with enthusiastic audiences, as they were meant to be seen!)

I think thats what we all do. Watch movies. I know where you're coming from. After awhile these movies all become gray for the most part. A good movies is a good movie is a good movie is just ok anymore. Maybe we all watch to much. Maybe we're all such the aficionados that we forget to just let it go anymore. Movies are after all just entertainment. A little get away from life. Then we come here to state our thoughts and debate,,nit pick....

......... Now back to your regularly scheduled program ...........

 Jesus Christ. Do you have to go to school or work? Do you read ever? 500+ per year? I barely make it to 100!

That's more films than I have seen in the last 5-10 years.

I admit the past two years I've been much more on the ball about seeing at least a film a week because of reviewing for the site. I kind of have to.

Before then I probably only saw about 40 a year.

There was a few years I worked in video stores in college as an evening job where I saw alot of rentals (not that much in theatres) but alot of it was just watching the movies while it was slow in the store late night or Sunday mornings, etc. I probably managed to squeeze in the hundred that I do now back then, thought a good 70% of it was while I was working. I didn't get to watch that much at home because of studies and painting.

I'm pretty sure if I stopped reviewing on the site I'd drop back down to about 45-50 movies a year (a little less than one a week), with about 35 being in theatres.

Well I'm sure this movie will do well on DVD, despite the flopping.

Yeah, I'm in college right now (Remember, you helped me with Art History a while back:smile: ) and read about 10-20 novels per year plus the reading I have to do for school. Outside of that though, I just basically just watch movies as a way to unwind from work and school.

Regarding Rawsaw's comment, do you all find that the people who watch/see only a few movies per year are more prone to liking most everything they see versus those of us who see alot of movies? If so, why is it?

Heh, for once, I believe Joe's telling the full truth when he says he sees 500 movies a year. Judging by his crowd reports and his rentals at least...

I would say that is not good. I think I see around 300-400 a year and that is too much. You become desensitized towards most of the stuff you see. I mean, at some point last year I found myself thinking about the movie's grade during the film rather than the film itself. Eh...I think too much is, well, too much.

Desentized in what way? Obviously you don't mean violence which is what people always use the word "desentized" when discussing.

No, desentized towards any appreciation of films altogether.

That can't be completely true or else a person like that (me and most film critics like Ebert) would hate everything. I liked Hard Candy and Slither for instance.

I've seen 14 movies so far this year, with 12 in theaters:

On a trip:

Failure To Launch
The Pink Panther

Theaters (12):

POTC 2
Superman
Xmen 3
Cars
Da Vinci Code
Over The Hedge
Inside Man
Nacho Libre
The Omen
Underworld/Date Movie (I'm not sure if this counts at 1 or 2 films, we went to Date Movie, thought it sucked after 30 minutes of watching it, and then we got tickets instead for Underworld, which was about 40 minutes in)
Doogal - Forced to see this. :nonono:
