I hope so.

Up until this point, I knew about the film, but like most projects of this type, I disregarded it because sci-fi isn't what the academy goes for. In fact, that genre hasn't received a nomination since Annie Hall raped Star Wars in 1977. But then the trailer comes out, and it looks amazing.

It's got the director in Cuaron. It's got the cast in Owen, Moore, and Caine, among others. It has that feel that while it's futuristic, it's not over the top world ending sci-fi that the academy would hold against it, it's still mostly set in a real world setting despite the plot points. It's got a score in place already, it seems like.

I think it has a shot. If any movie of this type is going to lock in on a Best Picture nomination, it's something like this.

Hmm. I saw the trailer, and thought it looks like a fantastic film (I mean, come on, Cuaron at the helm!) but I never did think of Oscar prospects. Hmmm. All 3 actors have some awards history (not just Oscars), and Cuaron I consider a fantastic director. I dunno. It's hard to call this one. I don't think it will though.

The same could've been said about fantasy until a few years ago.

If both this and The Fountain truly deliver, there's a strong chance we could have two sci-fi flicks in the BP category next year.

I saw the trailer for the first time tonight and thought it actually looked pretty good.

Didn't scream Oscar to me, though.

You don't need fucking lasers and spaceships to have science fiction. If anything, Star Wars and the like lean more towards fantasy than true science fiction.

I'm sticking by my word, if any sci-fi film can hit it big with the Oscars, this is exactly the kind that would do it. It's looking veryyyy possible now.

Ever since I saw the trailer I thought this had a genuine chance at winning BP. I'll wait to see how it's received, but I'd go so far as to say that I expect it to be nominated.

That is near-impossible. At most, I could see one, but not both. And Best Picture is far overdue for a sci-fi nomination.

I hear Alfonso Cuarón is channeling Kubrick in this film, which makes me VERRY happy.

The older trailer was better, because it didn't give away the whole damn film. I went rfom wanting to see this to thinking, why pay $10 for this, my desire to have made hot sex with Clive Owen may get me to the theater, but people who make trialers should be killed.

I'm more hopeful for The Fountain at this point, the full story for the Childrne of Men seems to basic and predictable form the longer trailer. Its Cuaron so I am hopeful, but I think Y tu mamá también is overrated. Little Princess of my favorite of the 4 films of his that I have seen.
