NUMBER 10!!!!!!

Image

Return of the King

Diretor- Peter Jackson
Release: 2003
Acters: Elijah Wood, Ian Mckellan, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Aston, Orlando Bloom
Plot: The final chapter of the epic of a hobbit who would save Middle Earth by destryoing the ring of power. At the same time it is also about the king of men, Aragorn, to rise back to his title as king of Middle Earth.

Reason for making the top ten: This truly is one of those rare films, most trilogies end with disappoinment, or don't live up to the original two, but this film exceeds them. The story maybe very simple, but it is dsiplayed as a heroic epic. Though it mydrag on a bit, it doesn't take away from the beauty of the film. With marvolous acting, and superb directing, this is truely one of the greatest films of all time.

Release- 1982
Acters- Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace-Stone, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote
Plot- The story of a boy who discovers an alien. The alien learns to adapt to Earth, but wants just to go back home.

Reason for making top ten- This is truly the perfect children's film, touching, lovable and fun. This movie turned Spielberg from a big action director into one of the greatest of all time. In this movie we learn a very important lesson, that home is the most important place of all.

NUMBER 7!!!!

Image

Schindler's List

Director- Steven Spielberg
Release- 1993
Acters- Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes
Plot- The story of a once greedy business man, who used Jews as cheap labor, discovers the evil of the Holocaust, and he turns his own factory into a refuge for Jews.

Reason it made the top ten- It is almost impossible to capture the horrors of the Holocaust, but this is one of those films that might have come close. Spielberg proves in this film that he can be both a fun director, and a serious director.

NUMBER 6!!!!

Image

The Wizard of Oz

Director- Victor Fleming
Release- 1939
Acters- Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke, Margret Hamilton
Plot- When young Dorothy is fed up with her life in Kansas, she suddenly finds herself in a new and colorful world. Now in the land of Oz, all she wants is to find her way home, on her way to find the Wizard she encounters a scarecrow, a tinman, and a lion.

Reason it made the top ten- This is one of the films that after several decades, it is still very entertaining. This is quite possibly the greatest children's movie ever. Though the acting isn't the same level as Return of the King or Forrest Gump, it is just as entertaining.

Number 5!!!!

Image

The Empire Strikes Back

Director- Irvin Keshner
Release- 1980
Acters- Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil, Carrie Fisher, Frank Oz, James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels
Plot- The Rebelion is going through a dark time, and it looks as if the Galatic Empire will destroy the Rebelion for ever. After fleeing Hoth Luke and Han seperate. Luke goes to Dagobah to learn the ways of the force from the powerful Jedi Master Yoda. Meanwhile, Han and Leia are fleeing from Darth Vader, and trying to get back to the Rebel base, but what they don't know is how Darth Vader is creating a trap for Luke Skywalker, his own son.

Reason it made the top ten- This is a story with no true flaws, the acting is top notch, and the story contruction is magnificent. This film turns the Star Wars universe from a fast paced space action movie, to a relaistic sciemce fiction drama. Irvin uses great comic relief, and is able to develop the charatcers where Lucas did not.

I'm actully shocked at WOZ making the top ten. I didn't think you have it so high! I'm also surprised by ESB for some reason.

Can you say what your 100 favorite films are later?

Number 4!!!!

Image

Lawrence of Arabia

Director- David Lean
Release- 1962
Acters- Peter O'Toole, Alec Guiness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins
Plot- The biography of the famous young Britsh Lieutenant TE Lawrence, it is about his days as an observer in Arabia.

Reason it made the top ten- This is quite possibly the greatest epic ever. The story of the young mans life is briliantly told, and of course the direction of Alec Guiness favorite David lean is top notch. All epics today, The Empire Strikes Back, Return fo the King, and so on are always compared to this movie, putting this peice of art below those two is acceptable, but they still don't live up to this epic.
