Jaws was PG too. People were less politically correct back then, and ratings were less strict accordingly.

Well for one almost all the Rocky movies were made before the PG-13 rating. Still, I was under the impression that the fight at the end would be the most realistic of any of the movies, and by that assumed it would be a bit harsher then something we'd see in a PG movie.

Charlotte's Web? That should at least be nostagy.

And Eragon = most overpredicted movie of the fall. Seriously.

Great points.

Charlotte's Web will do gangbusters family business, even if it doesn't quite reach Narnia numbers. Something will emerge from this winter with banners flying and bugles sounding, and CW is the best bet. Some hits are unexpected too - remember when Meet the Fockers made $275 million?

As for Eragon, exactly how popular are the books? I've never seen them.

Rocky V was PG-13. For some reason Stallone just had to show his ass to the world.

Eragon has a sizeable fanbase, but nothing compared to LOTR, Potter, or Narnia. However,
it has a ery LOTR feel to it. This film could have been huge. All they needed to do was
get a good trailer done in time to attach to POTC2, they failed. If they had managed that,
I would be expecting a 40M+ opening. The book fanbase alone is enough for this to open to
at least 30M. They are going to have to produce a quality product and saturate TV with good
ads this November to make up for the missed opportunity of putting a trailer with Pirates. I'll
remain optimistic until the trailer comes out. Then we'll know how if it will be any good.

No because Eragon predicts while optimistic are realistic. Happy Feet predictions are just crazy.

Exactly. I don't see any reason why Happy Feat will do "300m+!!" or even over $200 million. It's not Pixar, not Shrek, why would it do that?

Eragon is just gonna be LOTR/Narnia-lite, so about $175-200 million, I'm thinking. Fantasy is big right now.

Because dancing penguins is the best marketing gimmick of the year and its coming out the week before Thanksgiving, home to the highest grossing Harry Potter Movies, the #1 movie of 2000 (The Grinch), the biggest Bond movie ever (Die Another Day) and the 2nd biggest movie of Fall 2004 (National Treaure).

Eragon should do well because it has Fox behind it (Its great at getting its movies boffo openings) and the holidays, which give any movie good legs, but it won't be enough. It reminds me of Lemony Snicket minus Jim Carrey, which is not good at all. $150M max.

Don't know if this is good or bad in terms of BO. Makes auidence more bigger but that may mean it may turn off those expecting some grueling action.

Uggh now Im no looking forward to GR anymore. It will probably help the BO a bit but Im disappointed

Magnus, you act like people will flock to those other five releases without even knowing a thing about them. Hoax? Return? Do you expect like $20 million for all those? For all we know, those could make $5 million.

Marketing could kill it. But that's really it.

That is just pathetic. Those films will maul each other. Then the studios will scratxh there heads as to why they arent making money.

It's sad. A few of those are smaller films with definite potential (Hollywoodland, I Could Never Be Your Woman, Lucky You), but they'll be hurt by the immense amount of films entering theatres at the same time. :( It's especially too bad for the great-seeming Hollywoodland.

Interesting 28WL took the week between SM3 and Shrek 3. Smart, as it should be frontloaded anyway.

5 films in May if you include "1407" :)

Good move by 28 Weeks Later. The weekend after POTC3 is still empty. All it needs is one decent film there as the weekend after that isnt all that stromg (Oceans 13 and Surf's Up).

White Noise: The Light opens on January 5th, 2007.

The same weekend as Hostel 2. One will move and I suppose White Noise will.
