 Bowling for Columbine Bowling for Columbine Quote: Bowling for Columbine is a 2002 documentary film written, directed, produced, and narrated by Michael Moore. The film explores what Michael Moore suggests are the causes for the Columbine High School massacre and other acts of violence with guns. Moore focuses on the background and environment in which the massacre took place and some common public opinions and assumptions about related issues. The film looks into the nature of violence in the United States.
The film brought Moore international attention as a rising filmmaker and won numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature, a special 55th Anniversary Prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and the César Award for Best Foreign Film. Excellent documentary. Didn't love it as much as Fahrenheit 9/11, but it was great stuff. B+

I liked it until I found out how much of it was incorrect. The opening in the Michigan bank was staged. Some of the NRA footage was not in the time period Moore said. My initial grade would have been a B+, but now it's a C.

Very much incorrect at times and Michael Moore once again comes off as someone who really has little idea of the subject he is "documenting", but at the same time the movie manages to be very entertaining and it made me laugh more often than I would have imagined. I guess the loss of facts is the price for entertainment instead of dry documenting.

Very entertaining, often funny, and sometimes very moving, but never very good at documenting the facts. As a movie, it's very well told, but as a documentary, it leaves something to be desired. Still, it's an excellent film.

Bowling for Columbine - Moore's 3rd Best Movie!
Bowling for Columbine gave me lots to think about and it's premise (Fear Sells!) is presented in a very entertaining manner, however I would have to say it is Michael Moore's overall weakest movie (my favourite is The Big One). I think it's key weakness is pacing and it would have been a much better film with perhaps 30 minutes cut out of it's 2 hour running time. Nonetheless, it is a must see in the theatre because you know this sort of material is not going to be seen on TV any time soon.
3 out of 5.
(Note: Review written before Fahrenheit 9/11, which I would also rate higher than Bowling for Columbine, but not to say it's not worth seeing. I'm looking forward to Sicko, too - once he finally gets it done...)

Not as funny, but probably pound-for-pound the better film than Fahrenheit 9/11. Roger & Me is still my favorite Moore picture.

It doesn't really have much of a focus or a purpose and meanders a bit. Interesting but misleading (the NRA footage did not take place right after Columbine and was taken from various times, the bank thing was staged, and one of the kids who did the bullet "protest" actually feels he was misrepresented). Moore doesn't seem to want to make much of a point but wants to vilify many and use the "culture of fear" which he promotes in the film to sell his own movie.

Interesting.
I liked it. Although I felt the interview with Charelton Heston to be very unprofessional, and quite frankly, unethical, on Moore's part.

A very good film as far as filmmaking and storytelling go but Moore is not a good documentor in any way. He misrepresents, skews, slanders, edits falsely and completely changes what people say.
Not that I don't agree with some of his points/thoughts in the film, but this really isn't a documentary, its more of an op-ed piece.
Anyway, an interesting film to watch. But that is about it. B+

D-, Michael Moore's worst film. It's a complete failure as an op-ed piece because the basis of its argument consists soley on fabricated manipulation without regard to the truth.

Re: Bowling for Columbine Superb documentary. Not really an eye-opener, more just reaffirms what I already knew, but it's a brilliant and gripping film despite its one-note reporting. But the final part with Charlton Heston is great film-making. A-
Look forward to watching Fahrenheit 911 now I've seen this, to watch more dumb Americans doing dumb shit.
