 Walking Tall (2004)
Walking Tall Quote: Walking Tall is a 2004 remake of the 1973 film of the same name. It stars Dwayne Johnson and Johnny Knoxville. Like the original film, it was based on real-life Sheriff Buford Pusser, however, the main character's name was changed to "Chris Vaughn". The setting was changed from McNairy County, Tennessee to Kitsap County, Washington, U.S.A. Disappointing. Slow-paced and average action flick. I had high hopes. C+

Entertaining. Awkward pacing, but still fun. Nice one-liners, and good enough action. A decent time-waster, and a surpisingly strong theme. I'd recommend as a sort of Plan B type of evening. B-

I was really positively surprised by this film. I went in with no expectations whatsoever during my USA visit in 2004. The trailers looked mediocre and I had little interest in the film, but nothing else was showing at that theatre that I haven't seen yet, so I checked this out. I went out very satisfied. As alex said above me, it is The Rock's best movie. It reminded me a bit of First Blood with Stallone, only somewhat less serious. It's a thorwback to the actioners of the early 80s. The Rock is a joy to watch in one of his more serious roles and he shows how great of an action hero he can make if given the right material. The movie is pretty short and runs well under 90 minutes as far as I rememeber, but that doesn't hurt it at all. In contrast, it makes the it flow very well and it never drags. Johnny Knoxville provides a good sidekick and Neal McDonough is a good, slimy one-note villain. A very simple, yet very enjoyable and rewatchable movie.
