How is it down 15% if everything is selling out?

Then wouldn't this be an invalid point then, if the theater changed its screens??

I was out of town all this week, so I barely checked the movies yesterday other than in the afternoon, so I don't know how this compares to last night.

Hoffman 22 Alexandria, VA-This probably the busiest theater of the bunch, I think this is the one Libs calls her own.
4 Sellouts (at least) all shows from 7:00-9:00
5 more showings (could be showing in multiple screens or interlocking) until 12:30

Tyson's 16-Virginia suburb outside of DC
7:50 and 8:30 and 9:10 sold out. I think they added a 7:00 showing at the last minute and took one away from SR or another movie, because it was shown as sold out for the last hr and then was open about 15 min ago and these other later showings are sold out. SR should have a 7:00 showing but doesn't now.... 3 more showing until midnight. This theater has taken some of the business from the Hoffman (at least it has taken most of mine), so this is very impressive that it is selling out so early

No sellouts in Hampton 24, VA, but it has at least 7 showings tonight. This theater used to sell out all the time when it first opened (it was like the 2nd or 3rd of AMC new multiplexes in the country), but they have added at least 20-30 screens in surrounding areas since it opened and the area is oversaturated with screens to the size of the population. The area had at most 35 screens in the late 80s and now has well over 70 screens and the population has increased at most 20%. Sorry for the history lessson, but DMC is playing at every theater with more than 4 screens, so sell outs in this area are just not likely, there aren't enough people to fill all the screens it is on.. ROTK and Sith didn't sell out much when they opened here either.

I still feel like this movie (which I haven't seen and if anyone remembers I wasn't a big fan of the first one) can drop very little today. There was obviously pent-up demand from last night with all the sell-outs, which spilled over to today. The early shows today must have made up some of the loss of the midnight showings Friday, and I don't think it will lose anything in the evening/night shows today. I also think theaters were able to move other movies around or cancel other showings to meet capacity that wasn't available yesterday. I still think it has a great shot at dropping less than 10%, unless JMorphin, Scott, notfabio, or others have numbers that project otherwise. Cheers and I will try to update around 9:00 pm est.

Come on Mdana, Give the movie a chance and enjoy it for it was is fun....Or at least that is what Pirate Coco-nuts tell me because I thought hte first one sucked.

I think it is very likely that the drop wil be fairly small adn it will probably do around 45-46 million on Saturday.

The Internet as we know it would have a shitstorm. Even today, the traffic to BOM is so heavy that it's bogging it down and it won't load.

The reason is probably Drudge Report, which has a HUGE headline "BIGGEST OPEN IN HOLLYWOOD HISTORY" directly linking to BOM today.

the level of sell outs are as strong as yesterday. Everything after 7:30 selled out till 10:30. 11pm, 11:30, 12:00,12:30,1am and 1:30 am are avaliabe however will sell out as we reach those times.

All afternoon shows were almost fully packed. Also something i never saw before, theaters are adding shows like 9 then 9:01.

theater 2 in my town is sold out until midnight. It appears demand for this film in this city of 435,000 was to much.

Excel If it drops 15% it takes the all time saturday record. Also your theater was less busier then Rots so yours its not fully accurate.

That's a lot of sell outs. What city would that be? Mississauga? Brampton?

Maybe Mississauga. WE have 600,000 people. I'm not sure what theater he is talking about as their are quite a few of them here.

Crowd reports for Paramount Toronto: downtowns busiest theater

1130 AM 20%
12 22%
1230 25%
1 30%
2 30%
2 30%
3 35%
330 25%
4 40%
430 40%
5 60%
6 75%
630 75%
7 75%
730 90%
9 sold out
930 sold out
10 80%
1030 50%
1130 20%

These are not exacts, these are from a ticket girl that I just called. I told her i was writing an article for the Toronto Sun and if she could read me her crowd reports from today, it would be great. She did. This is just one theater in Toronto, but it is the busiest theater. Not a great turnout early, and then busier tonight, although only two sell outs thus far.

Report from the Queensway, one of the busiest theaters in Toronto also:

12 20%
1230 20%
1 25%
2 25%
3 25%
330 35%
4 50%
430 50%
5 50%
530 80%
630 95%
7 sold out
730 sold out
8 sold out
9 sold out
10 90%
1030 50% (right now)

11 (just added)

Interesting, this theater was busier than downtown. 4 sell outs, one almost sell out and two added shows (maybe 2)
1130 (might add it if the demand is there)

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
DEAD MANS CHEST

Where: Harkins OKC
When: 0708 @ 1740
Size / Occ: 400+ / 95%

Trailers:
Transformers - Okay teaser
some movie about guyes making their own college - iffy
Invincible - still enjoyable
Museum flick with Stiller - grade A trailer and looks funny as heck
Forgot the rest

Film: I was hyped up to see the film and looking forward to this sequel but i think it was a bit overthetop at times and maybe too long. I did enjoy the overall story and sub plots and liked the addition of davey jones. It was nice seeing jack sparrow again and his antics. The addition of the trading co rep is good as well. It adds a new touch of meanness. I liked the extreme level of detail that went into the creation of davey jones and his crew. I did not like this one overly long sword sequence against three players that really didn't need to be fighting to begin with and for such length of time. The visit to tortuga was weak as well but it did serve a purpose. I thought the film started out on a high level but started to go flat in the third act with the overthetop action. The last few sequences were nice and picqued my interest but the level of interest for the third film actually kind of went down after this. I will still show up to see it of course but I think others might not if they got turned off by some of the more darker elements such as a eye pluck and throat slash. I think this one won't be bringing many repeats nor repeat families like the first one. I think it will finish just a bit over 300 million in the end.

Grade - B

B since I don't throw around B pluses, but it's definitely not A.

Was at the AMC on 34th STreet earlier this evening... got there about an hour early for my screening and noticed a lot of crowds there, mostly seeing Pirates (pretty diverse audience... differeng ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds, the latter which shows that the movie has appeal pretty much among everyone)... most of the evenings shows until 11 were sold out and there were long lines waiting to get into most theatres. One line had about 40-50 people an hour before it started... I went into see my movie and came out and the line for the *next* showing already had that many people. I can see PIrates doing at least another $40-45 million today, which means it could break the fastest to $100 million record.
