It was never going to, Pirates will always be bigger than spidey from this point on Ive known that for a long time now though spidey is better he most curtainly is not bigger.

Depends how long Spider-man 3 is. It'll probably open in 4150 theaters, so it's definitely doable.
It might even have parts in IMAX 3-D a la Superman Returns. That's an extra 4-5 million.

The drop today will be small, if it even drops, there were only familys and groups of friends at the showing I went to yesterday, and the film refused to let up into the night, Im hoping it can stay flat.

I don't think Spiderman is doing IMAX 3-D. From what I heard Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is doing that.

Nope, it won't have IMAX 3D, that was recently confirmed.
Nonetheless, I expect a similar opening to POTC2. At least $53 million opening day should be guaranteed.

Spidey 3 will not top 145m, it has an established fanbase that has nothing on Pirates, especially when it comes to opening wknds

I wouldn't be so sure that Pirates will top $145 million either. I am thinking more around $140-141 million.

I wonder how will it do today but those numbers are fantastic
Now the only question is: How much money is from midnight shows?

oh it will, anything under 150m is once again an under prediction.

I think they only confirmed that the whole movie won't be IMAX 3D. I am referring to: "parts in IMAX 3D a la Superman Returns."
To put it another way, there is 0 downside to converting some of the action sequences to IMAX 3D.

Whatever the midnight numbers were, one can only say
Wowsers.
That's huge no matter how you slice. Finally a film that meets all but the most insane of expectations.

I told you it would break all three records Opening day, Friday and three day record. I even underestiamted it, I predicted 125 million. 55 million Holy Squiggle Squiggle! Even with Spider-man 3 Shrek 3 and even Pirates 3 opening next summer I don't see this being broken for a long time.

Would it be OK if I were to hope that Shrek 3 wont even beat Doogal's opening number?

Well, I thought Shrek 2 was trash, so yes, it would be perfectly fine.
I'm going to correct myself: I think Spider-Man 3 can get $150m.

For Shrek 3, it isn't the opening I'd worry about, its the total. The adjusted total for that would be $482 m. Opening will always be hindered, but I think admissions wise, it could very well have beaten even Spiderman, and others, because kids tickets are much cheaper, and that would have had an even bigger younger audience I think driving it to $441 m.
