I think 24 will dominate the show in terms of Drama. This has to be the year Kiefer takes one home with him, I think Smart and Itzin will both take supporting and it will win best drama. I am shocked about Laurie not getting nominated that is just nuts.

Okay, WTF all over.

Great for Six Feet Under racking 9, I think, nominations. But no drama? It had to have not made the final 10. There's no way it wouldn't have got in.

The Sopranos in drama but no Falco or Gandolfini?? Weird.

Sheen and Janney back in.

No DH.

No Mary Louise Parker or DH women, but Messing and Channing? Weird.

Kevin James?? Okay.

And, regarding Brenda's mom on 6FU...wasn't she in more than the 5 or 6 episodes that is the limit? Seems like it.

The thing that's kinda surprising, 26 of the 40 acting nominees can never be nominated for their shows again. (Well, Danner and Platt can, technically, but they probably won't be). That's a lot of nominees.

They completely ignored an absolutely riveting season of The Shield. Anyone who saw it would tell you the same, trust me. Forrest Whitaker should have been a shoo-in for a supporting dramatic actor win.

I was surprised JL Dreyfus got in, her show is brand new and even if you think it has potential, it's still very rough and early days on it. It definitely wasn't some standout.

I thought Whitaker would be in, as well.

Did the show score zero noms?

Colbert Report SMOKING the Daily Show! Guess we know who the real genius behind the Daily Show was. That's right, Stephen Colbert.

I don't know why I just insulted Jon Stewart there... He's hilarious.

Some other crappy omissions I thought for sure would make it:

Mary-Louise Parker
Jason Bateman
Jessica Walter
And I thought at least one Office supporting player (John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson) would've made it in

The Colbert Report is awesome. I'm glad the Emmys didn't overlook it as Daily Show Jr.

Wrap-up of thoughts:

A little bad. A little good. Mainly dumb. Wasn't really what I had in mind when I said "shake-up." I had in mind people like... Lauren Graham, or Kristen Bell, or someone from Battlestar Galactica. Aside from the left-field nominations (Christopher Meloni, Stockard Channing, Kevin James), though...

Six Feet Under deserved a Best Drama nomination and they know it. They know it.

Not surprised by the surge of love for Grey's, but I am surprised by the Acadmey forsaking Lost and Housewives for it. I don't think Lost deserved a nomination for this past season, but most didn't feel like it had any real sophomore slump like they did Housewives. The kicking of Housewives to the curb, though, I'll admit, is still making me happy. (Alfre Woodward, though? Mmmm... k.)

I'm pretty much thrilled that my 3 beloved comedies (Arrested Development, The Office, Scrubs) all made it in. A little less so that Scrubs only scored one and The Office only got one acting for Carell, but hey... they got the big one.

Kudos to 24.

I'm glad they didn't totally ignore Extras, probably my #4 comedy. And Kate Winslet = yes. (Did Charlize Theron not score one for Arrested, though? Ugh.)

Meh.

I don't think any words or phrases can describe my utter shock and disbelief.

I am so not watching the Emmys this year. IT's not because I'm mad but why would I? Nothing I watch is nominated!

I'll post and rant later about the horrible misses and the very very few hits they scored with the noms this year.

Whoa, No Falco or Gandolfini and Imperioli over Joey G? How did it even get a nod for Best Drama if those two arent even up?

Really though, looking at that list, Emmys seem almost as meaningless as the Grammys. No love for Rescue Me, Entourage, and Shield, Whitaker doesnt get a nod for best supporting? Nuts.

I can't believe noboby mention South Park. They actually nominated the Trapped in the Closet episode. I wonder if there is going to be protest from Scientologist during Awards night.

The winners for the juried awards have been announced and will be presented during the Creative Arts (Technical & Guest Stars) Emmys. These awards have no nominations.

Outstanding Voice-Over Performance: Kelsey Grammer, The Simpsons (for the episode "The Italian Bob"), FOX
- note: Simpsons vets Dan castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Jackie Mason, and Marcia Wallace all have won this award before. Strangely, Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns, Smithers, Flanders, et al) is the only regular to never win this award.

Outstanding Costumes for a variety/Music Program: Dancing With the Stars, ABC; MADtv, FOX; and Benise! Nights of Fire, PBS (three-way tie)
- note: This is the 2nd year in a row that MADtv won this award.

Individual Achievements in Animation: Awarded to individuals from Robot Chicken (Cartoon Network), Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (Cartoon Network), Classical Baby 2 (HBO), Escape from Cluster Prime (Nickelodeon), The Life and Times of Juniper Lee (Cartoon Network), and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (Cartoon Network).

Topping the criticism already laid upon this year's nominations, did you guys hear about this...?

Apparently Ellen Burstyn was nominated for supporting actress in a made-for-TV film (for Mrs. Harris) for a 14 second role. A FOURTEEN SECOND APPEARANCE.

The Acadmey could defend itself up to this point, but really, not with this.
