I didn't think I would want to see it that much, but I've seen the trailer twice already, and it looks genuinely good. I know it got alot of buzz on the festival circuit recently, and I the cast looks great, even Carrell. Its this year's road trip movie, heh, and I tend to like that theme quite a bit.

I saw and loved the trailer as well. The whole dysfunctional-family-on-road-trip thing will NEVER get old.

I grew up watching music videos directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

I know! Carrell looked really funny in this (which is saying something coming from my 40YOV disdain). And the girl they picked was an interesting choise too. The entire casting for this movie seemed great actually, and its right up there with Cohen, Prairie, and Pirates for my top anticipated movies the rest of the year running.

Looks decent if hardly original. Where is the originality in mainstream Hollywood these days? Sure, this may technically be an independent movie but my point actually has more to do with other films (most wide releases such as The Break-Up, The Da Vinci Code, etc.).

I want to see something that has never been done before or at least brings a new twist or perspective to something. Maybe I've seen too many movies and am tiring of the same old crap but for my money the two most refreshing films of the year (Brick and Hard Candy) at least tried to bring their own unique style to their respective genres and/or influences (film noir in Brick's case, the psychological thriller in the latter case).

Give me some good mainstream movies. I need some as I haven't seen very many lately and that has me losing faith. The summer has been very disappointing (with a few exceptions). And this is coming from me, a person who will enjoy most anything (I liked Ultraviolet, Running Scared, and other films wholly ignored during their theatrical release) if I can sense that the filmmakers are having fun with the material.

I used to be looking forward to it when I thought it was going to be a parody of children's beauty pageants, along the lines of Best In Show and such. But it turns out it's yet another story of a disfunctional family learning to get along. Been there done that.

It's technically an indie but any film with such a high-profile cast and backing by Fox hardly seems to qualify as an independent film. Fox is hardly a small company. Lionsgate is probably the last true independent studio left.

I realized that after I posted so I reworded my post to be a more accurate reflection of my feelings on it. But people on this forum are so quick to respond, this happens to me a lot.

Yeah, the dysfunctional family learns to get along plot line is way overused. I worry this will be another film like Bee Season which I thought had a great trailer but was a really dissapointing film.

Even though I'll see this, I'm not really expecting much from it.

I cant get too excited about it because i have no idea when its going to be released over here i really want to see it!

Ok so I saw it tonight.

And let me say...I was completely blown away by how utterly charming it was. Really, it didn't have the melodrama of other dysfunctional family entries such as The Squid and the Whale -- which by the way I also loved, or the depressing darkness of films such as Bee Season -- I was mixed on that one. Instead, Little Miss Sunshine was hillarious, charming, and, even heartwarming all at once. It really was quite a good movie, and I got to stay for Q&A with the two directors afterwards, so I learned so more about the film.

Anyway, I'm going to give it an A and say thus far its my favorite of the year.

If the entire movie is only half as charming and funny as the dinner scene in the trailer, I'm sold.
