 Whoa... Star Jones is gone?
I was reading that Star Jones announced yesterday on The View that she won't be back this fall on the show, and would be leaving in July. Now, on today's show, Barbera Walters said that she didn't tell anyone that she was going to say anything about it yesterday, so now she's gone from the show, as of today.
I know it was rumored that she was going to leave, with the addition of Rosie in the fall, but I didn't think it would happen. Apparently, ABC didn't want to renew her contract (aka she was fired), and it sounds like she didn't take it lightly. I wish I had watched yesterday.
...
Yes, I watch The View. So sue me.

I am glad Jones is leaving I disliek her, but I also dislike Rosie O'Donnell, so its like no change. I want to like the view, but there is always at least one person on the panel (and sometimes two) that grates on my nerves.
I am glad Meredith is going to the Today Show, I like her.

Barbara Walters coldly ripped into outgoing VIEW talker Star Jones this morning on ABC-TV.
Walters announced that Star would no longer be permitted to appear on the show -- effective immediately -- after Star strayed from script during an exit that's turned ugly.
Transcipt:
WALTERS: "And then there were three. This is, truthfully, a very difficult day for us, and it is a sad day for us. If you were watching the program yesterday, you would have heard Star announce that she's leaving THE VIEW and will not be on the program next fall.
"We didn't expect her to make this statement yesterday. She gave us no warning. And we were taken by surprise. But the truth is that Star has known for months that ABC did not want to renew her contract and that she would not be asked back in the fall.
"The network made this decision based on a variety of reasons which I won't go into now. But we were never going to say this. We wanted to protect star. And so we told her that she could say whatever she wanted about why she was leaving and that we would back her up.
"We worked closely with her representatives and we gave her time to look for another job. We hope she would announce it on the program and leave with dignity.
"But Star made another choice.
"And since her announcement yesterday, she has made further announcements that have surprised us.
"So it is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table.
"And, therefore, regrettably Star will no longer be on this program, except for some shows that have been prerecorded.
"THE VIEW helped make Star a Star and Star helped make THE VIEW the success that it is.
"We will never forget that. We wish her well in this new chapter of her life as we begin a new chapter on THE VIEW."
Star Jones fired back on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show in Los Angeles, PerezHilton.com reports.
"Barbara didn't have my back"
Star told KIIS FM: "I'm not trying to be emotional about this. I understand it was a business decision. I understood it was a business decision when I was told then. But then in that same week, I was told they were adding a new co-host and it was Rosie O'Donnell. And that was the same week that she had been so nasty and vicious towards me. Rosie insulted me. She tried to damage me professionally and personally...
"It's a little shocking to me that Barbara feels betrayed. I was really surprised that Barbara feels betrayed. If you watched me yesterday, I said that she was the most amazing mentor and I thanked her for the most amazing opportunity. My departure was orchestrated some time ago. And while I can accept any business decision, it's hard to accept the manner in which it was handled during the last two months. But, if you use words like betrayal, if anyone should be betrayed, it should be me! Barbara didn't have my back...
"It didn't sound right for me when they were saying your ratings have gone down. I said, well wait a minute, I've seen the ratings. The top five shows in the year you're talking about were about me and planning the wedding. It didn't sound right. "

Elizabeth says a lot of dumb things. But, she benefits from being the only hot one on the show.
So. She stays.

Hahahaha.
Meredith Viera (sp?) was basically the only person left on The View allowing the program to have a semblance of dignity. Star Jones was horrible, though I'm not sure Rosie O'Donnell will be any kind of improvement. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is probably the only slightly appealing one left, although that's underscored by (in my opinion) her horrific political views.

After watching that clip, I wonder...
How do people watch this show without ripping their own eyes out?

Well as Star Jones exits the public eye with her curiously thin figure intact, we now have Rosie O'Donnell re-entering the ring to absorb all the late-night fat jokes and general Internet mockery. I have a feeling Rosie will be even worse than Star at her peak (Bridezilla stage), she got horribly obnoxious & irritating once she left her show and I doubt she's toned it down.

All Star really had was the view, as I don't see music, tv, or movies being generous at all to her.

It's a challenge.
I really, really want to like Elisabeth (she remains one of my favorite Survivor contestants ever), but her politics seriously make me want to go jump out of a window.

The only one that bugs the hell out of me is Elizabeth. She's an annoying ultra-conservative, short-nerved "I'm so better than you" person.
PEACE, Mike.

I currently work out of the home and we were watching The View this week on the office TV so I saw this live. I remember saying "OH SNAP" after watching Barbara Walters... well... emasculate Star Jones with one sentence ("We gave her the opportunity to leave with dignity").
Wow.
I mean... you do NOT come out and fuck with Barbara Walters. She is an icon, she has connections to the entire span of music, movies, etc. From top to bottom, left to right. It doesn't matter if she was "wrong", if you piss her off enough, your media career could effectively end. And Star wasn't really fired until she basically quit... her contract wasn't renewed. That's how it works in business. Considering how much of a bitch she was, it sounds like ABC was trying to help her as much as they wanted to (apparently there was some behind the scenes problems and standards that were broken in order to put up with her diva attitude).
That said, Star Jones was an idiot who's IQ seemed to disappear with her weight. She got plastic surgery then is reaping the benefits by selling BOOKS about how she lost all that weight. It's absolute bullshit... she called up the view once because she was in the hospital because she was getting her BOOBS LIFTED... from her tirade against athiests to her wedding. She was humorless and took herself and her position as moral athority WAY too seriously. They need to get someone in before Rosie though, I would imagine that if they were going to let her go in mid-July that they already have someone lined up.
It will probably (and needs to be) a black woman.
I hate Elisabeth too, but she's dumb and her arguments are usually so absurd that it really doesn't effect me. She just spouts the latest generic Christian Conservative psychobable. They really need to get someone in there who is going to be level headed like Meredith that can help steer the show. I actually think Rosie is a good choice, the only problem is she's just going to have the same personality as Joy.
The winner in all of this seems to be Meredith, who is on to the Today show and won't have to put up with this crap. She's a real news/entertainment lady and apparently pretty classy.

Meredith used to be a local newscaster in my area incidently Matt Lauer was also a cohost in my area and his time here overlapped with Meredith's.
Who knew working in RI was a nice pathway to the Today Show.

My 2 cents here.
I watched the view on and off in the beginning but less so as time went on but I did miss Lisa Ling when she went. I don't care much for Elisabeth (who is NOT hot) because as one poster mentioned she has an attitude of know it all or better than you. I don't mind her views and in fact agree with some.
Meredith Viera was okay but I think the show was dumbing her down considering that she was a true journalists and now with be hosting the Today show. Some of the hot topics she brought up were just stupid.
I like Joy Behar because of her quick wit and comedy which Rosie ODonnell has completely lost.
Speaking of Rosie. Bad choice and dumb choice. Does the show REALLY have to have a lesbian on it? Did some Lesbian producer demand this? Ugh. Rosie was great on her own show when she wasn't shoving her gayness in peoples faces but now she's just a joke who isn't funny and spews liberal vomit. I guess that was the new "direction" that Star was referring to.
Lastly, as for Star Jones, I do think she was backstabbed because there is no reason not to renew her contract and the excuses that we've heard so far are bogus. Low ratings and different direction. If there is a valid reason it would prolly be that the other hosts just didn't like her anymore after 9 years. As for her replacement, I don't think it has to be a black woman necessarily. They could go with someone Hispanic which is IN atm especially with the show turning Ultra Liberal now.
One last think about Barbara Walters. She may know alot of people in music tv hollywood etc but I doubt they even care nor even like her.

Firstly, I doubt Rosie was chosen because she's a lesbian. I HIGHLY doubt there was a meeting where the producers suggested a lesbian join the show. Rosie O'Donnell hosted her own show, and she's a frequent guest of The View. It's not like this is a sudden thing.
As for Star, there's lots of people who feel her presence has tarnished The View. From her weight loss (which has sparked accusations from those who believe she had gastric bypass surgery, as opposed to diets and exercise, which I believe she has claimed) to her big wedding to Al Reynolds. Star has her fans, obviously, but she has a lot of people who hate her, too. She attracts more negative attention than Barbera, Joy or Elizabeth. I believe that's the biggest reason behind her firing.

And, she never should have made her announcement on Tuesday to the audience. It's been said numerous times since then that she was going to be given the opportunity to address the situation later in the week, and she decided to take matters into her own hands by telling people she was being let go. She broke script, she went against orders from her own bosses, and she took time away from guests that had been booked on the show and segments planned for the show.
Obviously, this has nothing to do with her situation for Season 10. I'm just commenting on the immediate firing two days ago.

Well, apparantly Star hates Rosie, so I wouldn't be at all suprised if that played into it as well.
Too bad Michael isn't around to make jokes about this; I'm sure he'd have a field day with this story.

I find it humorous that one of the claims during all this was that Star was informed she was leaving before Rosie was announced as the new co-host. As if the Rosie signing was only in talks for a day or two before the announcement.

You know, after watching this Star Jones thing on an entertainment show, I got to thinking: Star Jones supposedly knew that months ago, she was going to be leaving the show after nine seasons. She was told she was going to be addressing the issue LATER in the week. She addresses the audience without warning on Tuesday. So... why not address it long before this? She had months to address the audience. Suddenly she has to get it off her chest, two days before she was told to do so. She couldn't wait two days, after waiting three months, supposedly?
And she thinks it was perfectly fine.

Well, she's clearly trying to create more publicity for herself, as I see. Instead of fading back to obscurity, she'll do a one last hurrah type thing. I doubt it's gonna get her any additional clients if she goes back to law though.
