You obviously can tell Lex isn't a murderer in a sense he does the killing himself.

Case in point. He never tried to kill Lois or Jason. He only stabbed Superman. He had to have known that it would have only put him out of commission for a while. The only person he actually harmed was Superman, and that was by a direct hatred for him. He had little to no reason to kill Kitty.

So causing billions of deaths is that much different from directly killing someone? Osama Bin Laden isnt so bad then, he ONLY caused thousands of deaths, he didnt directly kill anybody.

1. Lex asked the Fortress of Solitude to tell him everything, thus learning that the crystal's will grow with water. The Fortress of Solitude was cold and dark because of where it was located. Lex wanted his crystal island to be in the North Atlantic Ocean... much warmer than the arctic, in case you didn't know.

2. Nobody notices the Clark/Superman connection because that's how it's always been. It's Superman's suspense of disbelief. Live with it. It's just like how Mary Jane never figured out Spiderman was Peter Parker by his voice even though she's known him all her life.

Brandon Routh plays an almost perfect Superman/Clark Kent. And he is almost the EXACT same size as Reeve's was. He's only an inch shorter and 5 lbs lighter than Reeve's was during his Superman stint.

Kid, I'm so sick and tired of hearing about how Routh is the same height as Reeve and the same weight and yada yada yada and when it comes right down to it?? You need to get your eyes checked young one.. Put a pic of both Reeve and Routh up, side by side, dressed as SUPERMAN and CLEARLY, you'll see there's more Masculinity, more intimidation and sheer Presence from Reeve than from Routh who looks more like he step out of a modeling gig modeling boxers in front of Bryan Singer.. Routh required shoulder pads, Reeve didn't.. Routh required 4 inch heels on his boots which elicited a snicker or 2 when I saw this and Reeve, well, DIDN'T.. Reeve was built like a brick shi*house and when he was in the alley charging, changing into the Man of Steel, he meant business and you didn't get in this guy's way.. He was barrel chested and fit the role to the "T".. With Routh though?? I'm a Big Guy and even I felt like leaping through the Silver Screen and knocking him on his ass.. I shouldn't have to feel that way with a character with the top billing of MAN OF STEEL.. Routh was MAN OF HEART.. Put me in the fuc*ing sequel and I'll destroy Routh and do what Lex Luthor couldn't.. At least it'd be fuc*ing original..

Well just got back. Very good solid film. And BKB, enough, we know your opinion of the movie, which you stated months before it even opened. We knew you wouldnt like it. I thought it looked horrible too, but I saw it with an open mind.I was very worried about Brandon Routh, but he did a very good job, While in the same retrospect that Batman will always be Michael Keaton, Christian Bales adaptation is well done too. Very suprised by him. Where as Bale was much better at being Bruce Wayne than Keaton, Reeve obviously is the better pic for Kent. While Roth isnt the perfect size of Superman, he looks a lot like Reeve did in the first film, varying in size. I feel if they make a sequel, he'll be better built and continue. He's not the same size, but they worked the extras well as towered most of them.

Kate Bosworth was acceptable, and even though I thought she was miscasted, she was no Katie Holmes. Jimmy Olsen was great, Richard was good, Kevin Spacey and Parker posey were very fun to watch. Actually the most I was disappointed with was Marlon Brando, I could barely here him, with his motza balls and some weird echo. The kid was actually good I thought. First time I never saw a kid ruin a film.

It could have used a final trim down, of maybe about 20 minutes (like the crops flashback, couple of little things) It had a great opening sequence and loved how the end mimiced the other films.

I would say my biggest complaint was the score, and not so much the new stuff, though I find some of the revisions a little tacky. I hate that everytime he became superman, they played the john Williams theme. It was almost of an overkill. I would have loved if they had more of the old Luther theme playing, that was very distinctive too.

The story was good, about as good as anyone could hope from a superhero film, that focused a little too much on the christian allegories, and like said could have been trimmed a little bit.

The effects and action were very well done, and they really are something to marvel at. Though some of the action was missing some of the punch. Im suprised, as I loved Singer's blend of action and briefs moments of comedy. We need a powerful villian again, I dont think Luther should be a focus next time

So lets revamp. Superman is back, Routh is no Reeve, whereas Bale was no Keaton, but both are very acceptable. Singer needs to develop a tighter story next time and work on the pacing a little.

AHEM!

I NEVER said anything about the evil inside Lex. Don't get me wrong, he's hella evil, but his mindset isn't in the state that he can kill directly, only indirectly. That doesn't make him ANY less evil.

And who the fuck brings Osama into a Superman debate?

Sure, Reeve did look way more intimidating. But you were saying Reeve looks BIGGER. And I am stating that they were the EXACT same size. Don't be an idiot. You're better than that.

I'm 5'8" and 115 lbs... not intimidating at all... but I'll give you chills if I come after you.

Oh, as my new rank of Superhero films will go like this. Now this rank only goes for Superhero films. Not my regular scale

These are the Great
9- Batman Returns/ Xmen 2
8.5 Superman II/ Xmen/
8- Superman The Movie/ Batman Begins/

These are the good
7.5- Batman/ Superman Returns/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/ X3

These are the entertaining and watchable
6.5- Spiderman/ Batman Forever
6 Daredevil/ Fantastic Four

These have good moments but aren't the best of films
5.5 Superman III and IV

These are the bad
4 Spiderman 2/ Batman and Robin/ The Hulk

A decent restart to the franchise but nowhere near as good as Batman Begins. The plot holes have been done to death already in this thread so I won't discuss them much more except to say that they exist (especially annoying is the fact that no one recognizes Clark as Superman and vice versa). I thought maybe the Superman 'S' was blinding everyone but Lois failed to recognize him in the hospital as well. At least Spider-Man wears a mask, making Mary Jane's inability to recognize him at least somewhat believable.

The action sequences are decent but do tend, like the film as a whole, to go on for far too long and thus losing their effectiveness in the process. The dramatic scenes, especially the almost unbearable last half hour or so, share the overlong fatigue as well. I thought the film was going to end on at least three occasions before it finally did end (in the same manner as the Spider-Man films no less with the hero flying/webslinging through the air). Elliot Graham and John Ottman obviously could have used yet another editor.

The acting was above par. I didn't mind Routh as Superman but he was better as Clark no question. Bosworth was good as Lane, far more convincing than Kirsten Dunst ever has been in the love interest role in the Spider-Man films. Marsden and Huntington both did well in their supporting roles as well. As Lex Luthor, Kevin Spacey stole the show with ease. He was brilliantly maniacal throughout with only a few moments where he overacted just a little too much. Still, he was lots of fun to watch and almost worth the price of admission alone.

The look of the film was a little too plain for my liking with some of the special effects obviously CGI when they should have looked more believable. A scene with the crystals raising up shouldn't have been done with CGI but instead models or something tangential. Newton Thomas Sigel's cinematography is far too bland for such a high-profile production. It doesn't come close to the compositions seen in Batman Begins. Where was the 260 million spent? X3 easily looked more expensive than this, if only because of its larger cast of actors to pay.

Grade - B-

I cant wait too see a movie where Supes will actually fight the villain and not just pick up crap, it does get tiresome after the 100th time. Everything in this film just felt so safe. Bring on Brainiac or Doomsday, I hope Singer doesnt decide to go sappy and melodramatic in the next film.

Agreed on almost all accounts. Even on the score, I thought the same thing coming out of the theater last night. However, I felt the action it had was very intense. There just wasn't enough of it.
