BJ is no stranger to disappointment. I think he's still waiting for Walk the Line to cross $200 million.

Pirates will open with 75 million and end up at around 280 million.
I am sorry but I just don't say the hype with this film. I know some people who want to see it. Then again maybe I am biased because I thought the first one was crap and this one doesn't look to be better.
However I know many people like the first one and thought it was great. I put this ceiling on this at 320 million max.

If everyone that saw POTC 1 saw #2, this would do close to $335 m. But alot of people caught this on video/dvd.
It was released on Dec. 2, 2003, and still sold 13.3 million units that year ($235.3 m worth). It also had among the top 6 best legs ever for $40 m + openers.
I don't see the $500 m + that BJ does, but I definitely see $400 m +. The first one was just so big.

Well maybe. I know it won't make 500 million but 340 million could be possible and a reasonable increase for a well recieved sequel. That aside I can not even begin to understand what people would see in it. I also don't really see much hype for it in the city. If I didn't coe here I would totally forgot about it. I don't see too much advertising with the most notable one being at the Metreon in SF it is lit up in a revolving banner but the same thing was done for Constatine there. One or Two TV spots and not many posters in the City...I saw more posters for War of the Worlds and Batman Begins.

It's likely been said before but the "ace in the hole" for Pirates is that it has the precious, precious female audience that could work unpredictable mojo on it.
I see between 280-320 though.
It could make 50 million dollars for all I care, as long as it's great.

I see 280-320. Funny you should mention the female audience because the only person I know who is really looking forward to it is Female. However judging your friends take on a film is not a good BO predictor.
I think the SR and PoTC are the best shot at 300 million this year. Both have different audiences and i think both will do well. Neither film has grabbed my attention though
I hope it is a good film, but I will wait for cable the first movie was not horrible horrible just very uninteresting and contrived for me.

Why I am not surprised to see this club alive and kicking on KJ?
Anywho, 500m is unattainable in my opinion. That goes for any film releasing before 2008.
I see POTC2 topping out around $400m, at the very best. My current prediction is for around $340-350m.

Realistically...this does have a shot. If the film is better than POTC1(and it very well could be) and there aren't too many 100m+ films after its opening, it is possible. Now, it would be ITS ABSOLUTE MAX, but...I really think its possible. A 65% increase would be the same as Shrek 2, and this can pull a Shrek 2 now I beleive. I don't think it will, but it is possible.
I can't beleive I just said POTC2 can do 500m. I've offically gone crazy.
you are young. you still have the chance to change...

I'll join (finally).
It has as much of a shot at $500 million as Shrek 2 did at $440 million. That's all I'll say.
