David only started tracking Yahoo reviews in early 2004 when he noticed how huge the first day number was for Passion and later on Mean Girls. Then we began the practice of consistent hourly update for the opening day in late May or June. (check page 3 of this thread).

Before 2004, Yahoo was using a different voting system, where one could vote many times (if I remembered correctly), so all the current votes for pre-2004 movies came from later, especially after the recommendation system was in place.

Nacho Libre 1239, $10,800,231, 114.72

Do you have an excel spreadsheet with historical Y! ratios?

He usually updates page 1 of this thread periodically with a chart. I believe it was last done in April.

Yeah, I'm going to do another update sometime soon. There are also some weeks from earlier in the year missing in that table.

Can you send me a PM when you do that? I'm interested in doing a little more in depth data mining (tracking, genre, actors, marketing budget, etc.).

I remember that I first started following it with Bad Boys II and Seabiscuit; Underworld was the first one I followed on opening day; and the first one I posted about was The Passion. I actually had a thread for a month after the Passion, but everyone was skeptical since it wasn't accurate at that point. Well, ok, I actually had some terrible projections. I kept tracking it, and at some point I felt that I trusted it somewhat myself rather then just having hope for it. After Mean Girls you were around and it took off.

The current voting system began on July 7 2003. That was actually 2 days before the original Pirates opened. Of course we don't have opening day Yahoo numbers, but it was the very first movie to have reviews from the day it was released.

Do you all think "Hostage" is a decent comparison for "Waist Deep" tomorrow? It's probably the best match I could find from the list on Page 1.

ATL should be a good comparison. Somehow I haven't added Four Brothers to the table. "Urban" films tend to have high ratios, and with a small theater count, I don't expect a ratio lower than 300.

Four Brothers had a 257.57 ratio with around 1800 reviews.

Hustle and Flow is the best match, in my opinion. July release, 1,000 theaters, same genre, and sort of similar competition (2nd weekend Wedding Crashers).

Updated the tables on the first page. There is still a gap between August and November of last year. Should be able to get to that soon. Everything with 600 reviews or more is in the first table, and the rest is in the second table. Will need to split to more in the future.

I have 250-280 (Hustle & Flow is a good suggestion; still think the ratio will be higher) and 80-100.

Ok, with early numbers I think Click will win the weekend.

Stay tune for further updates such as whether Click will reach 20m!

No 10:30 EST update, but Click has 18 written reviews and is moderately to significantly clogged.
