Amazing trailer. I'm glad WB allowed Shyamalan to use free artistic skills to create this movies. I could see this being a mini-Sixth Sense, honestly.

I think this film will really do well on DVD/video, but the sting of The Village is just too much to overcome, at least on opening weekend. A 2.25 multiplier is horrendous.
The only $50 m + opening films ever to make 40% or more of their total gross in their first weekends are:
Xmen 3 (but The Village's legs should end up to be worse): 45.6%
The Hulk 47%
Van Helsing 43.1%
The Village 44.4%
I don't think there's a chance for Van Helsing 2 or The Hulk 2 to do even remotely as well as the first films, and Village has a huge uphill struggle unfortunately. DVD will be its main place to shine if its a good movie.

I think if it is good though it will have great legs. I think it can open in the low 40's and make 120-140.

I don't see how a low $40's opening is possible coming off of The Village. Now I can understand legs if its a good film, but I don't understand the low $40's opening coming off of one of the worst received films of all time...it had worse legs than Batman and Robin, and alot of other clunkers. This will hurt its opening weekend, but total wise, legs can still save it.

This isnt a sequel, it's a whole different film. Obviously some will look at it the way you're saying but not the majority, just because the director came off a film that got incredibly mixed wom doesnt mean it's gonna do crap business.

The Village seriously damaged Night to the point that he's gonna have to try extra hard to pull people in.

I think most people don't even know who Night is. The geek crowd does but that is probably 10% of the movie going audience. I think people will be pulled in because of the marketing if WB does a good job. If the movie does less OW it will be more becuse of a failed marketing campaign by WB.

One could agree with you if the titles of his movies didn't have M Night Shyamalan's "Title". Plus The Village opened to $50m on his name alone.

Most people know who Night is. He is THE selling point of all his movies. Why do they plaster his name on the posters, calling them "M. Night Shyamalan's"? Signs and The Villiage wouldn't had made half of what they did without Night. For god sakes, he made the cover of Newsweek as "The Next Spielberg" when Signs came out. How sadly wasted THAT brief title was.

Thats absolutely not true, he's gotta be one of the most popular directors today and brings in a crowd, especially when you consider the guy doesnt need a 100m+ budget for his films. Village wouldnt have made 50m with another director, no way

Well maybe I am wrong I am just not sure his name will hurt the movie that much. People remember his other films if that was the case. Spielberg had his share of awful film or disapointing films. AI for example didn't kill him.

The reaction to Shyamalan's name on the new trailer was quite good. Despite the fact that the new trailer happens to mention that abomination of a film, The Village, people didn't seem to care much. I think this can do well.

Everyone knows who Night is. EVERYONE! His films are sold on his name.
This film will tank.
Mark it here.

Actually, Shyamalan is better than Spielberg.

A 2.25 multiplier is not mixed word of mouth, its horrendous word of mouth. Some fanboys may have liked it, but a film with the 2nd worst multiplier of all time for $50 m + grossers is not even merited mixed word of mouth imo.
