Quote:
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (aka "The Fast And The Furious 3 ") is a 2006 street racing action film directed by Justin Lin. It is the third installment in the The Fast and the Furious film series and currently the fifth in terms of series chronology. The film, featuring an all-new cast, was shot in Tokyo and parts of Los Angeles, the latter often covered with props and lights to create the illusion of the Tokyo style. While Paul Walker is not in the film, Vin Diesel reprises his role as Dominic Toretto in a cameo appearance.

This is one of those films that, despite knowing how technically "bad" it is, I didn't care. The storyline is awful, but it just kinda didn't matter. It's fun as hell. More fun than the last film, but not better, and not even close to the original.

But, of course I had a blast.

B+

(Oh, and that Vin Diesel scene sucked.)

I knew your grade the second I saw that you posted in this thread :P

Hopefully I'll have fun at this one like I had at the last.

This is really a pointless movie with some race scenes thrown in that really were not that well done. I could not stand Lucas Black as the lead and his southern accent was driving me nuts!!! It's a shame how much these movies have fallen off since the original.

And I loved the Vin Diesel scene in the movie. It was the best part for me. Made me think of how much better this movie would have been if Vin was the lead, I hope they make another one with both Vin and Paul Walker in it.

What the hell was Bow Wow doing in Tokyo!?! This film had a bad plot yet was saved by the racing scenes. I hated Lucas Black his accent was very annoying. Vin Diesel's scene was not so good, I would have rather him have been the lead than Lucas Black.

Was Lucas Black's accent that thick in the movie? It didn't seem like it in the trailers but heh.

I don't even know how to grade this. It's a low-end Rocky meets Lost in Translation.

It's really a z-grade film but the girls, THE GIRLS, Oh my stars and garters!

So for the dozens of smoking hot chicks and the Japanese backdrop...

you get a B

I will not see this (the last one was one of the worst movies in quite some time), but I'm curious as to how well the racing scenes came off. Were they well shot, coherent and not riddled with ADD editing that's so typical of young directors these days?

I can't recall if there's even racing in the film.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - B+

Unabashedly corny but oh so much fun, 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' is a blast. The writing isn't the best to be sure, but it suffices. What matters anyway are the races, chases, and any scene involving cars and director Justin Lin gets these right in spades, delivering sequences that are far more exciting than those in the first sequel. The acting isn't really too bad either with Black more convincing than Paul Walker ever was and Sung Kang does a fantastic job as Han, bringing more humanity to the film than one might expect from such a film. Other performances by Brian Tee as the Drift King, Bow Wow as Twinkie, and Nathalie Kelley as Neela are also decent. I still can't believe Bow Wow actually managed to not annoy me too much. Well worth seeing on the big screen. Bring on The Fast and the Furious 4!

I'm surprised by the generally positive response in this thread, especially loyal. I expected the infamous 'Z-' from him.

Miami Vice looks awesomer than anything. When does that come out again? I can't wait.

Quite frankly, had it not featured hot Japanese women, a Z- was in store.

this just popped into my head - I liked the scenes where the 2 hot girls called the Ready, Set for the start of the races.

By the way.

I'm pretty sure this is better than the last two.

I don't remember either of them, much, but I do remember them sucking.

This one, well, kinda sucked still but...

This one, if you strip it down, get rid of all the lights and cars and people, get rid of the dialog and acting and actors...get rid of EVERYTHING until you have basically the main guy, the main-guy's main guy, the main girl, the uncle and the nephew...

If you get it to that point, it's actually not a bad film.

The problem is, it's got so much crap layered after layered over top, that it's easy to miss those main 4 or 6 people that matter.

Also, the lead lady has the most beautiful rectangle face I think I've ever seen. It was so...perfect...ly rectangular.

And to be honest, the races were EASILY the best of the series. That final showdown was actually good. They managed to make them reletively exciting AND easy to follow all at once.

And the soundtrack was pretty great, too. Especially that song that kept playing, the Tokyo one. yknow?

So yeah, if you can just sit there and take in the sights and sounds and those 5 crucial players, it's actually pretty enjoyable.

Also, I loved how they managed to turn Tokyo into LA, by strategically placing one Asian from each main country in the US throughout.

Also, I just realized this is from Better Luck Tomorrow director Justin Lin. That explains the soundtrack and the races and the not-really-sucking-too-bad.

I think the worst part of the film was Bow Wow's character...well, not his character, but the fact that they cast him as his character. It was a throw-away part, (once Han comes in he's pretty much brushed aside,) and he was clearly only casted to bring in whoever it is that likes him. Get rid of him and re-edit the trailers, next time.

It's just retarded cheesy fun. Felt like a throwback to similar films from the 70's except new age and with a bigger budget. I actually really enjoyed the first film, the second film was awful, this was okay for what it was.

BTW, seeing Black's hairy nipples and throughout the film his chest hair showing out all the way to the top of his neck kinda bothered me.

Well, I suppose I'm going to be one of the few people on the planet to rank Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and The World's Fastest Indian on their 2006 top ten list, but what can I do? They'd make an awesome double bill in my book. So, say what you will, but I loved this genre flick!

The editing, the story, the settings, the background babes, the lead actors, the cool cameo, the thumpin' soundtrack, the direction, the cheese-wizardry! It's all done up right, here.

And, remember, I'm the guy who could only see one new movie last weekend and chose The Lake House over this one, and ended up rating that movie a 4 out of 6 - and a I love the esoteric sub-genre of ROM-TimeTravel. But, that one was just not well directed - FF3:TD is a classic, that ultra-rare (2nd!) sequel that bests the original.

Don't miss this one on the big screen! (But if you did, if you're reading this in the future -- be sure to treat yourself to my suggested double bill down the road...)

6 out of 5.

World's Fastest Indian was technically released in 2005.

I know, I've been trying to find out. It's sooo good.

Actually, the entire soundtrack is good.
