Also guys remember this is a kids film, kids don't rush to the internet and place there rating on yahoo. You have to factor that in as well just like Over the Hedge and Madagascar. More people have seen Over the Hedge than it's yahoo count would indicate.

We've already taken that into consideration, liesse. Considering this is Pixar and Pixar has more adult appeal than an average computer animated movie, there tends to be more reviews for Pixar movies, thus the higher ratio Cars gets than Over the Hedge.

Cars 755, +20, B+
The Omen 3451, 364 today, +5, C+
A Prairie Home Companion 0 (Not Active)
I guess The Omen is going to have a very low ratio?

I'm getting the feeling that this is one of those weeks where Yahoo is messed up and
it ends up not being very helpful.

Actually these numbers are pretty much in line with reports.

Other than the A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION weirdness the numbers so far are pretty reasonable
especially considering the Tue-Wed-Thur drops for OMEN.

It seems to be on par with crowd reports.

The Incredibles (also Pixar!) had a 70 ratio, and Cars is most certainly a more kid-oriented and more kid-aimed in terms of marketing and overall feel. Considering that, as well the new Yahoo homepage and the newfound yahoo review clogging, I think a low ratio is perfectly reasonable, if not more than reasonable, in my opinion.
PEACE, Mike.

Omen is still a Friday night kind of movie though. I would have expected at least a 75%
increase for Friday. At this rate it won't even hit 5M.
With an 80 ratio, I can't see Cars passing 15M today if yahoo is working properly. That
would put it around 55M (at most) for the weekend. I'm hoping something is amiss.

The Incredibles had a 70 ratio? Then why are we considering 80 for Cars then?

Yeah, it would seem that The Incredibles, of all the Pixar films, would be more accessible to the adult audience than Cars.

Nice for Cars. It's passed the point of under a $40m weekend. It'll probably land in the $50-60m range, which obviously is not bad at all. It should have nice legs.

With an 80 ratio, it has already made $11,237,500. With a 70 ratio, it has already made $12,842,857. With a 60 ratio (pushing it), it has already made $14,983,333. I expect an OD of at least $16 million, good enough for a $55 million OW.

I think we are looking at an opening day of $13-17 million here.

Well, that's what I can give ya without the final bumbers I am sure it won't be $20 million, but will be above $10 million (heh).
Realistically I am seeing $14-16 million.

It should finish the night with around 1,200 reviews (assuming it begins to slow down), and with a 75 ratio, it should get around $16m opening day and $56 million opening weekend.

I noticed that Cars seems to be getting a strong grade of a B+. Do you guys factor that B+ when using Yahoo reviews in any way?

It's solid, but not very encouraging for a Pixar flick.

Yes. Usually a strong grade (as well as a good night - ie. backloaded review pattern) indicate a small ratio. Plus the genre, theatre count, and such are taken into account for the ratio as well.
Xiayun is the expert on this.
PEACE, Mike.

Xiayun is good as well because I consider him remarkably neutral. He never seems to let his own prediction/opinion bias his interpretation of the yahoo reviews, so we don't get a runthrough that is twisted to fit whatever he wants, like some people do at times.
PEACE, Mike.

Well Pixar films have always been about the legs anyhow, so looking at an opening day isn't exactly fair.
