What does that mean anyway? It's tracking as well as every other movie ever made? Heh.

And please, an inside source. It's just Disney fueling the hype.

and the hype will be so great that the film will open massive then chug is was past 500m easily :shades:

Disney better get off their ass if they want that to happen; the hype for this movie is nowhere near SW Episode III or RotK.

NO WAY IT WILL DO $500+

BUT

i predict an opening weekend of $125 million and a multiplier of 3.6 for a TOTAL DOMESTIC BOXOFFICE of $450 million.

WORLDWIDE $900-950 million.

IT WILL BE THIS YEAR'S SHREK 2

I find it quite impressive how BJ actually has some sort of influence to predictors.

What makes anyone think this will do what one other film has ever done? I just don't think you can predict the success of a film to go that large. Titanic came out of nowhere to make that kind of money. I can see it making 300 mill, but not much more. Hell, ROTK, the most popular film since Titanic couldn't even muster 400 mill. Why in the world would this do more?

Didn't you predict a $100m+ opening weekend for M:i:III? Your track record doesn't help you here.

Dude have you checked my track record? I get perhaps every 1 out of 5 films correct. Pirates 2 is next

Snrub appears to be in both the 500m+ club AND the under 200 million club. Clearly you should penalize him. May I suggest amputation?

If you browse around the forums at Keep to the Code (the official PotC fansite), you'll find lots of news:

The premiere will be covered in a 30-minute special on E! on June 25 (it'll be pre-recorded from the premiere on the day before).

Volvo has begun its PotC-themed contest featuring a buried Volvo and a treasure hunt for said Volvo. The commercial has already been spotted several times on TV. (commercial here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6GXgbTzAia0)

We're beginning to get information on the specifics of the late night circuits for the actors; Orlando so far is confirmed for Leno and Conan, while Johnny is confirmed for Letterman.

Starz is going to have an "On The Set" special about PotC2.

They're now passing out flyers at the El Capitan, advertising the movie and the fact that the theater is going to be all done up piratey-like. (pictures here: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post ... id=1187423)

Zizzle just had a contest in NYC for PotC look-a-likes. The winner went home with a Volvo, a large amount of Zizzle toys, and a nice sum of money. The second and third place winners both won toys and money as well (an online pal of mine won second place! Yay, Toby!).

A very, very nice billboard has been spotted on Times Square. (pics here: http://johnnydepp-zone.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=27010)

Tons of different European magazines have been releasing issues with PotC as the cover articles. The latest is Total Film.

Commercial for M&Ms has appeared. (can't find video on YouTube, though I *know* it's there)

New TV spot premiered with the MTV movie awards. (video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=HGmNe-RkUBw)

First actual movie clip from movie played during MTV movie awards pre-show. (video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=f6FQHqqMi4U)

ET had a behind-the-scenes look at PotC2. (video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nCbr7iXMIWM)

Best Buy is having a special where if you buy a specially-marked DVD, you get a coupon to see DMC for free; Kodak is doing the same giveaway via the purchase of $20-worth from their PotC EasyShare gallery online or through the purchase of $30-worth of Kodak products at stores; there's a PotC DVD game that also comes with a coupon to see DMC for free

Exxon-Mobil has got a scratcher game themed to PotC where you can win prizes (I've not been able to participate as there don't seem to be any Exxon or Mobil or Exxon-Mobil stations here in KC).

There's much more, but that's some of the more exciting stuff that's recently come about.

Joy
