Bah, I just watched Signs today, and I contend it is the scariest film I've ever seen. I haven't seen many though as you can tell. The Sixth Sense wasn't scary, just kinda creepy. The Village had tension, but was more of a romantic drama.

I thought exactly reversed about The Sixth Sense and Signs. I thought Signs was just creepy, but The Sixth Sense was scary. And I have actually seen many, yet I consider The Sixth Sense to be one of the scariest I know.

I'm revising my prediction as well. They just can't figure out how to market this.

Opening weekend - $22 million

Total gross - $60 million

I have a feeling that TV spots and future marketing will change a lot of opinions on this one. The more I hear about this, the more I have a feeling it'll be much more solid then the trailer implies. I'll take a chance and guess 32/105 right now (not that I'm doubting it's potential to bomb). I think judging the movies sucess because of the studios past failures is pretty shortsided.

The marketing is just selling the movie wrong that seems to be the big problem here. According to Giamatti the movie has a very Wizard of Oz vibe to it, why not play that out? Does every M.Night have to be sold as a horror/thriller? Common already.

The movie has a very interesting concept and that alone will have me their opening weekend, something different.

It's not really the studio that makes me go so low. It was always the negative reaction to The Village, and the fact that I don't think this seems to have any potential. I never thought this could reach 20m opening weekend, and now after POS bombed, I went from 15m OW to 11m.

Hmmm, after seeing that poster in such large quality. I noticed ALOT of things i didn't the first time around.
like the wolves, man with the torch, the pages, the skulls.

The first time i just glanced at her scary face and moved on.

I think it will depend on how good it is. I think it could open 20-30 million but if it has the quality of Sixth Sense or Signs it could have great legs. Hopefully, it won't turn out to be another village.

The spots airing during the NBA finals arent bad, pretty mysterious and creepy, but again, it might end up being misleading marketing.

I'll be completely honest, I don't know HOW this can do well. It has so many things against it.

- It's coming off of a film which had the 2nd worst legs ever for $50 m + openers (behind only the Hulk).
- Less known stars than M. Night's usual.
- BV dumped M. Night over the project, and WB took it over instead. Something about that isn't encouraging...
- Bad wom for the Village.
- Confusing marketing.
- Not a thriller apparently, and alot of people will go to see with the wrong expectations, which will only hurt its wom.
- Bryce Howard's presence is another direct link to the Village.
- People tired of his films being the exact same style each time.

The only thing that can save this film imo is quality, and legs if its a superb film.

But they don't have very good marketing techniques, IMO. At least in comparison to other studios.

yeah, whats why i have lady in water being a leggy hit.

fils with tiny expectations/expectations that will suck-like this movie, always have a high chance at surpring and breaking out, just cause its better then everybody thought.

But I mean, do you really think that Lady In The Water will even have much of a chance to get legs? This is the equivalent of The Hulk 2 at this point. It would have to be a near masterpiece at Sixth Sense levels to even come close to doing well imo. It has TOO much baggage.

This is a difficult film to predict. There are so many questions to be answered. Among these is: How will people respond to it knowing it is a Shamalyan film, after The Village and all? Second, just what is this anyway? A thriller? A fantasy? It looks like the marketing will display an identity crisis for the film.

Pretty much, it could either be a big hit putting Shamalyan back in form at the box office, or yet another disappointment (or even flop) for Warner Bros in 2006.

I am more and more convinced every day that this is going to near duplicate A.I.'s performance.

Hm. I think this will be much leggier than Village, although that will keep it from getting to it's true potential legwise. I think this'll pull in a much different crowd than Shymalan's normal.

$35 million opening weekend.

The total depends on the WOM. It could end up as low as $80 million or as high as $110 million total.

Seriously, I get a feeling this will be another falsely marketed film like The Village. If so, Shyamalan's next film will bomb into oblivion.
