 Carrie
Carrie Quote: Carrie is a 1976 American supernatural horror film directed by Brian De Palma and written by Lawrence D. Cohen, based on the novel Carrie by Stephen King. The film and the novel tell the story of a socially outcast teenage girl, Carrie White, who discovers she possesses psionic power which seems to flare up when she becomes angry or otherwise distressed. Carrie's powers become apparent after her humiliation by her peers, teachers, and abusive mother, eventually resulting in tragedy. The film stars Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Betty Buckley, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, William Katt, John Travolta, P.J. Soles and Priscilla Pointer.
The film was a major success for United Artists, grossing $33.8 million at the U.S. box office, on a budget of $1.8 million. It received a mostly positive response from critics. The film spawned a failed sequel The Rage: Carrie 2 and a fairly well-received made for television remake, released in 2002, neither of which involved De Palma. During a survey taken in October 2008, it was revealed that Carrie was considered one of the most popular movies teens watched on Halloween.
Spacek and Laurie were nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.

I found it to be overrated. The film builds and builds and builds to that one scene at the prom, but the payoff is lame. For Carrie to react the way she did, you would think that she might have tortured all of the students just a little bit more, instead of just lighting the place on fire. Also, the way her "date" gets killed had to be one of the film's funniest moments. Actually now that I think about it, the way Travolta and Allen get dispatched in their car is a little bit funnier. I also found the mother to be a little too over the top. I understand that she was supposed to be an overly religous wacko, but toning it down a bit would've helped.

Creepy but also strangely moving. Sissy Spacek is wonderful. B+

Might be my favorite King adaptation. The last 30 minutes of the film are masterful.

I will be as traumatized as Amy Irving if something like that happens to me while visiting a cemetery.

Spacek and Laurie (especially Piper Laurie, her demise alone is spectacular) deserved their Oscar nominations.

I need to rewatch this one.
All I remember well is how horrifying the final scene at the cemetary was.

If I were grading this like it was 1976 all over again and I saw thisa for the first time at age 10, I'd give it an "A" if merely for the ending.. 30 Years later, I'd give it a "C".. Wonder if John Travolta every checks this out when it's on TV?? That was back in the "Welcome Back Kotter" days along with "Saturday Night Fever"..

It already has I thought?? Check IMDB but I'm sure they did it and it bombed hard.. Or maybe it was CARRIE 2.. Either way, I don't know, but it's pretty dated..

Creepy. The whole prom scene is so wonderfully shot that it instills a true sense of carnage. I'll echo the praises for Spacek and Laurie as well.

They came out with the "sequel" in 1999 and then they remade the original a couple of years ago as a TV movie.

 Carrie
Carrie is a true horror classic. A well-made and brilliantly directed film that doesn't even feel dated nowadays. Sissy Spacek gave a brilliantly creepy, but also sympathetic, performance as the titular character. The act in the school still holds up as one of the best horror sequences of all-time IMHO.

Amazing classic horrorish film. Acting was great and at a time when "horror" films still got acting nods. Excellent cast and last 30 minutes is superb.

The best horror film ever made in my opinion, full of tension, great acting and a wonderful final act. Superb! A+

Most horror movies forget to build up for a big scene like the prom in here.

 Re: Carrie
I like the camera work, the beautiful use of long takes and zoom-ins. The string of events leading up to the prom scene makes one root for the bullied Carrie. Pretty good build-up even though the ending is weak.
Sissy Spacek reminds me of some actress who's in Jean Rollin's vampire exploitation films.

 Re: Carrie
I saw this as a teenager. Thought it was fairly stupid then. Maybe I'd like it better now. The end jump scene did scare me though. I'd probably rate it a C.
