How long before the film recoups its astronomical 210 million dollar budget (not counting Prints and Advertising)? That's really quite insane to spend that much on a single movie. Superman Returns cost even more.

Well, as far as projections go, I stick with $35-42 million

Actually - its a sound investment for a sure thing like X3, maybe not for SR though.

Remember, US theatrical gets you to break even - then you have:

Overseas theatrical
Worldwide DVD and Video sales
Worldwide DVD and Video rentals
Worldwide TV rights
Merchandising

So they make huge profits and justify their spend that way.

I think it'll still profit. Assuming the studio gets half of the total gross (which is a very conservative guess, since it could be as much as 60%), it would need $550 million WW to break even (I'm assuming $65 million for prints and ads). Personally, I think it'll get $500 million WW max (compared to $407 for X2), but DVD sales should easily take care of the remaining costs.

Even if that 210m budget is true, it really shouldn't be too hard to make up.

I think this should make 450m WW at least, which is enough to break even mostly. And with merchandise, DVD sales, TV, etc. it'll be really succuessful.

Still seems like a lot to spend on a movie but I guess it's par for the course with summer blockbusters. I just wonder if it'll be as safe an investment for Superman which people may not care about any more? X-Men is a far cooler comic (the mutants and their various powers).

That's something we need to ask from the makers of Poseidon.

It's probably pretty difficult to find them right now as they likely are unemployed...

So X3 is on track for a $40M+ Friday? Is that actual very possible or just "not impossible"?

The 2nd one would have done $34 m adjusted for inflation now. Considering how this demo has been underserved, and that its the final film supposedly in the series, a Friday approaching $40 m wouldn't be impossible. But I'm leaning closer to $37.5-38.5 m right now, say $38.23 m Friday...

Also Xmen 3 will in all likeliness slip in its 2nd day. The X2 example isn't the best. That was the beginning of May, when alot of people are stil in the exams/work/school mode. This is the Friday before a long weekend, which alot of people leave early or take the whole day off altogether, leading to a stronger Friday. I would not be surprised by a 15% drop based on the midnights, final film in the series, etc.

I think it's clogged. Only about 3.25 ratings for every written review, which is really low.

Still appears to be somewhat clogged.

It's on the old front page with a photo. I expect something over 1,500 one of the two next hours.

No way X3 drops 15% thats rediculous, Freddy Vs. jason didnt even drop that much on Saturday. Its not impossible that it will drop, but its not impossible for it to increase either, where as Davinci had strong matinees from older adults ultimately dropped for having the same amount of business. X3 will have a lot of kids and young adults continually coming on Saturday as well. The low theater count also means that more sold outs could occur, resulting in rollover business.

Im thinking if it drops it will be 5% at the most, and I think an increase of 10% is the most. My prediciton is is -2%-5%

An increase is impossible. Too much at midnight, and this is late May when Saturday increases tend to be lower.

Unclogged. At the very least mostly unclogged.
