The fact that the original is one of the most fun films I've ever seen in a theater.

Pirates.... Draws:
1. Characters.. Pepe le Pew Johnny, Post-modern Elizabeth, perfect Orlando YMFTP(young man from the provence), Edwardian father figure, and for comic relief for the masses-Tweedle-dee and Tweedle -dum...
2. Cinematography.. Not really the special effects.. More just the ocean and island vistas... A summer movie, for sure.
3. Story.. Has a plot line for three sets of characters.. pirates, lovers, Depp(ranconteurs)... vs. 0ne or two...

The original brought Johnny Depp back into the limelight... His fans have probably increased tenfold since the first.

But I do agree that this being PotC's sequel will be the greatest factor.

Well, for me, it's because it's PotC's sequel. Even if Johnny weren't in it, I'd be there. PotC is what made me a Depp fan, not the other way around. I'm a PotC fan separate from being a Johnny Depp fan. And I know a lot of others who would say the same thing, so I voted for "This is PotC's sequel".

Honestly, it's Depp. Not the movie itself. All the marketing is centered around Jack Sparrow too.

Oh come on -- by that logic, any movie Depp is in would be a hit, and that's certainly not the case (see: The Libertine).

Depp is absolutely brilliant in this role, but it's the role they are coming to see, not Depp (if you see the distinction). Maybe that's what you meant, though.

I voted for the "sequel" option. I mean, I had so much fun with the 1st one and have rewatched it so many times. The fact that this has the same writer, director, and actors tells me it will be good.

Okay, it is not Depp per sé. It is "Captain Jack Sparrow". Seriously, I don't see why anyone would deny that.

Well, it's his character IN the pirates film. I wouldn't be interested in seeing "Captain Jack Sparrow meets the Scooby Doo gang" or anything.

D'uh, but you see, Sparrow has become to POTC the same as Indy has become to Indiana Jones films (without having his name in the title of thew film).

Not to mention Sparrow is Depp, as even the writers of the first film said their script had nothing on what Depp actually did with the role.

A good point. I agree. I would not be half as interested in seeing POTC2 if Sparrow were not one of the main characters.

Speaking from personal experience, I'm looking forward to it because trhe original is one of my all-time favorite movies.

But I also would not have loved the first movie without Johnny Depp's performance. So...a combo of both, I guess.

I want to see number 2 because of number 1. Johnny Depp made number one the movie that it was. So, I'm with libs. A combo of being a sequel to PotC + Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.
