If Sony/Columbia was smart, they would have postponed Big Fish for this year, and it would be sweeping awards left and right. Espically since it is a much better contender than Closer and spanglish.

Big Fish is not academy material, and never would have been.

Oh I disagree...I disagree A LOT. If Seabiscuit and Master and Commander can get nominated than Big Fish is definestly academy material.

You also said that The Ladykillers is the best of 2004.
Therefore rule 1 is discredited.

I'm happy about:
* Sideways leading nomination tally, it actually has a strong chance at Best Picture in Oscar if it doesn't pull a Leaving Las Vegas; it strongly needs a win here over Ray otherwise I think it will be snubbed by Oscar
* Nicole Kidman for Best Actress in a Drama, glad they actually saw this film; one of the best performances of the year and Nicole's career best
*David Carradine makes it, can he pull a Robert Forster (who had no precursors, not even GG)?
*lack of Kate Winslet in Best Supporting Actress; this was one of her weakest performances yet, and she is overshadowed by Radha Mitchell in the same film)

I'm just overjoyed for Sideways.
I hope everyone who has not seen it sees it right away.

Im somewhat dissapointed that they think of " Ray " as a Musical/Comedy, thats horrible. Especially since I remember Jack Nicholson winning a best actor in a drama award for " About Shcmidt " which was obviously a comedy.
Oh and I also cant belive " Closer " is up for best picture. Anyways GO MILLION DOLLAR BABY !

I assume they think of Ray as a "musical" given that it's about a musician, and contains several performances. Just a thought.

Well, obviously that must the the reason. Nonetheless, I don't think it is a very wise idea. We all know that Ray is nowhere near a musical or a comedy...

I don't think it's really about what HPFA thinks. Ray is submitted to compete in the Musical category, which is a smart decision since the competition for Drama is tougher.

Chigago is a musical, DeLovely is a musical. This isnt, atleast imo. But like xiayun said Drama competition is hard so this might be a safe bet for " Ray " to win best picture, im just dissapointed Jamie Foxx wont be able to get best actor in a drama.

Actually, it doesn't even really matter, hehe. Sideways already has it in its bag and as for Drama The Aviator or Million Dollar Baby would get it. No matter where submitted, Ray would have been nminated and no matter where submitted, it wouldn't win.

I think it would've only gotten a best actor nomination had it been submitted in the drama category.
At least now it's pretty much a lock to win best actor in a musical or comedy.

Yes! What a day!
Scarlett Johansson in the hottest woman alive. And, isn't that her third Best Actress Golden Globe nominee in the past year?
It's nice seeing Kill Bill Vol. 2 get two nominees. Although Uma, Kidman, and Johansson are essentially out of the race, at least she's getting something!
And, once again, it's nice to see Eternal Sunshine pick up some nods. Although Sideways will win Best Motion Picture (Comedy), it shows that the voters have some connection to the film (like many of us who saw it in theatres) that could help it get the fifth spot in the Oscars.
Still, don't count on Kinsey. FOX Searchlight doesn't have enough influence to successfully get two movies in the Best Picture race. Then, we'd have three studios with two movies each (WB - if you count The Aviator...) which isn't likely.
Right now:
Best Picture:
The Aviator
Finding Neverland
Million Dollar Baby
Sideways
Fifth Choice: Ray, Hotel Rwanda, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
And for my Golden Globe Predictions:
Best Motion Picture - Drama: The Aviator, WB/Miramax
Best Motion Picutre - Musical/Comedy: Sideways, FOX Searchlight
Best Actor - Drama: Johnny Depp, Finding Neverland
Best Actress - Drama: Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby
Best Actor - Comedy: Jamie Foxx, Ray
Best Actress - Comedy: Annette Bening, Being Julia
Best Supporting Actor: Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby[/b] Best Supporting Actress: Virginia Madsen, [i]Sideways
Best Director: Martin Scorsese, The Aviator
Best Screenplay: Charlie Kaufman, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Best Original Song: Andrew Lloyd Webber - "Learn to be Lonely", The Phantom of the Opera
Best Original Score: Sideways (Jazz!)
Best Foreign Language Film: Diarios de motocicleta (:D)

Agreed with the first four, but honestly, Closer and Kinsey both stand a much better chance than Eternal Sunshine...

HELLLO!!!
I forgot my analysis in the most important category.
It's important to note that Passion of the Chris did not get a best score nomination.

When you mean Chris, you put Christ, and when you mean Christ, you put Chris.
It also didn't get nominated for Foreign Film.

No big surprises, but the love for Kill Bill and a couple others is nice to see.
We may already be half way into December, but the race is just beginning (well, sorta...).
Let the games begin.

I think Uma has a serious chance of winning the Globe!
EXCELLENT nods.
The only complaint is a total snub of Before Sunset, which only really hurts Julie Delpy.
