Post Dukes of Hazzard Prequel in the works.
Quote:
Bill Gerber, the producer of last year's The Dukes of Hazzard, tells PEOPLE in its new issue that he is working on a prequel to the movie that brought Jessica Simpson (and her rear view) film fame, and he thinks Kristin Cavallari, 19, would fill out those Daisy Duke shorts quite nicely.

"She's at the top of the list," he says. "I like her innocence and her beauty."

Why not just stick with Simpson, 25? "It's a prequel, like Batman (Begins)," he says. "We're going for a whole new cast."

I covered this shit in the deli and dear jesus are Hollywood just trying to kill cinema? Can someone find this Bill Gerber guy and just shoot his balls off please?

In the annals of movie ideas this has to be the most pointless in a while.

Yeah, but I think the cast of the first film was one of its main attractions, no? I mean what can work better appealing at teenage crowds than Seann William Scott (American Pie); Johnny Knoxville (Jackass) and a half-naked Jessica Simpson?

This won't do well at all.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another sequel to a piece of shit! This, AvP 2, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, and 2 S.I.C.K. (if you haven't seen the original, you're lucky) are convincing me that Hollywood is trying to destroy cinema. Someone please, PLEASE tell me there is not a "The Fog 2" in the works, or I will have to blow my brains out.

Maybe make it closer to the original show and I'll watch it. The movie was an absolute disgrace to everything Dukes of Hazzard, and I didn't even see it. Making Roscoe a tough guy, and Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg = disgraceful. And then the change of the good ole boys theme to more of crazy dumb college guys.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't really mind the first one. I mean, I gave it a C+, which isn't great by all means, but I enjoyed it slightly.

The Super Troopers part was the best.

I dunno, sounds like it might be better than the crapfest that was the recent Dukes movie. Their antics would be easier to take if they were younger and anyone is sexier than Jessica Simpson.

I never got the Jessica Simpson thing, either...

Even when she smiles, she's got a perpetual snarl on her face...

The sequel/prequel is going direct-to-video.

From Studio Briefing:

"Warner Bros. Cranks Out 10-15 Direct-to-Video Movies
Warner Bros. is planning to release 10-15 low-budget movies a year directly to DVD, most of them sequels or prequels to theatrical movies, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Tuesday). The studio's first release will be a sequel to 2005's The Dukes of Hazzard, which will be produced for about $5 million or less and will not include the original cast members of the movie. The studio is expected to focus on producing sequels to films that performed relatively well at the box office but not well enough to warrant a theatrical sequel."
