Ratner likes to kill people.
I wasn't disappointed at all. Actually, because of all the "disappointment" talk, I think I loved it a lot more than I could have. It's the fun summer blockbuster I was expecting, and while I didn't love it as much as X2, I think it's better than the original.

I'm pretty sure that it's your review that did it, Lecter.
I was really worried.

Enjoyable entertainment but not as good as X2. I was more underwhelmed than disappointed with this one. An OK entry into the franchise, but pretty forgettable.

 Movie
Movie
I it was a great ride. The story wasn't as great as X2 however the action destroys the other x-men films. THe action was amazing and is the thing that makes this movie good. Because of the action, it is easily a re-watchable film and will likely become the highest grossing x-man film.
However the Character development wasn't as great, however the deaths of certain few were sad. MAGNETO's really is the star with great acting and his powers are amazing. Jean grey was scary looking in this film and her powers were beyond anything we have ever seen.
It felt like a war scene in the end. The best moments are when Jean Grey shows here destructive powers at her house and on the Bridge. Magneto lifting up the bridge was wickid as well.
Most teenage guys will like this film.
I went with low expectations and you should always, because then you see every movie in a different way. It wasn't the great film like x2, however it was lots of film and much better then Da vinci code.
I give it an A- or 8/10.
NON-fanboys will like this film, like me. I thought it was a great summer blockbuster.
well i doubt fo cares, this has and will become the highest grossing x-men.

I liked it, though if they were going to kill off characters, I'd have prefered them be off'd later in the movie, and not in the first half.
***
My prediction. X-men fanatics (those who follow the comic book religiously) will absolutely HATE this movie. (Im not an x-men fanatic, though)

Most of the negative reviews I am seeing here are based somewhere along the lines of "it's not true to the comic."
I have given my opinion before about films not being true to their source that it doesn't matter to me -- a film should be judged on its own merits, as if the original source did not exist. (Fact-based films are different of course.)
Not having read the comics, I came into it with no preconceived notions other than the first two films. I had a great time and felt it was the best of the lot.

Even myself, who hadnt really read the comics, but watched the cartoon, felt kind of weird when they killed off certain characters. But I kept thinking to myself "There arent going to be a billion movies like there are comic books, it would actually be kind of lame if none of the good guys died during the movies most important battle sequences."

I'm an avid X-Men comics and animated series fan (major letdown on what they did to some characters, especially PSYLOCKE, one of my faves) but I still ended up liking the movie.

The chick with the blue/purpley and black hair that passed through a wall to corner Warren II and Rao (Shohreh!!!!)... I first thought, hmm, probably only a nod to Psylocke's looks since the psi-blade is more of her trademark rather than her appearance and she wasn't mentioned by name.
The end credits though listed her as Psylocke.

Hehe. Yup they did.
At least Gambit didn't make an appearance and also get killed (Gambit is my ultimate favorite).

Wolverine is my favorite! At least I know they'll never kill him off.

I remember that Psylocke was incredibly hot in the very odd X-men swimsuit comic they drew for some reason... My friend bought it. (YES, THAT IS THE TRUTH! Friend does NOT = me)

I saw this a second time , (didn't pay for it), and enjoyed it much more. I give this a C/C+ now.
I thought Magneto walking away from Mystique was one of the best scenes in the whole franchise.

Hmm... I like the look of disgust in his face upon seeing the "ugly" Raven Darkholme.

Eh.... I didn't like that scene much. It seemed kind of fake to me.

I walked into this film with great trepidation and apprehension. I set myself up for a big disappointment. And, to an extent, I was right. This is a far cry from the first two, both masterpieces in their own right. X1 is one of the best pure fun films of recent memory, and a fantastic starting point for the franchise. X2 is just brilliant. X3, on the other hand, is a step down from both. It has neither the fun of the first nor the drama of the second. The screenplay is quite lazy and poorly written here. That being said, this is still a good flick.
The movie did have its moments. The action scene at the end was quite good, as was the scene in Jean Grey's house. Wolverine remains the best character of the films, but he is rivaled here by Magneto. Jackman and McKellan are by far the best. The effects were perfect, but I would have preferred some more "background mutants" like the second one had. The new mutants were interesting, but underused. The general story about the cure was intriguing but, again, underused. I didn't really mind the random killing of some beloved characters, but Cyclops and Mystique should have been given a proper send-off. And Xavier's death was too... disturbing. I did like the way they did away with Magneto, though, as well as the last scene which leaves room for a sequel. And the scene after the credits was pretty cool.
The real problem with this film is the script. Ratner's direction is fine - he certainly knows how to film action - but Singer brought his writers with him to Superman, and their replacements aren't that good (who are they anyway - IMDb doesn't have them listed). Many sub-plots are introduced but not resolved. Many characters are underused (Colussus and Angel especially). Some of the dialogue borders on after-school special cheese. Some scenes are perfect examples of lazy writing. And the plot attempts to bring about some moral and ethical depth but ultimately falls short. This is a film which would have greatly benefitted by being 20-30 minutes longer and broadening the story. Greatly disappointing.
All in all, this is a worthy addition (conclusion?) to the X-Men series, albeit a step down. I doubt it really is "the last stand" as the scenes bookending the credits seem to suggest otherwise. I am sure that with Singer at the helm, and more competent writers, this would have been just as excellent as the first two.
