Superman 2 is still rightly a Donner film, 55% of the footage in the theatrical was his. A lot of Lesters was merely adding the holes of what Donner didnt complete. I love Superman 2 as well. But to call it a Richard Lester film is wrong, the same with calling it a Donner film. Its a joint effort.

Top notch fun i loved it.

Never read an x-men comic in my life so i could care less about any deviation in the storylines. It's better then the first and pretty close to the second in quality. Chould have done with been longer and the mutant deathcount doesn't need to be as high as it is but otherwise a perfect summer movie.

The best in the series and I hope they make another.

It had the right mix of plot and action (the second was too much of the former, not enough of the latter) and a little better than the stellar original. The acting was good across the board; standouts include McKellan, Stewart, Jackman, and Grammer with nice support by Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, and Anna Paquin (although she really didn't have much to do this time). The funny bits worked quite well, most of them with Jackman involved. The action, especially the final sequence was phenomenal. The best film of the summer so far (blows M:I 3, Poseidon, and Da Vinci out of the water) and something I wouldn't mind seeing again.

Grade - A

The thing about X3 - It was more fun than the too serious X2. The original was better than X2.

Storm??

I doubt it. She controls weather, which is a far cry from the rotation of the earth.

I thought it was simply just the passing of time. When we see Magneto move the bridge, it has all bu he, Oyro, Jean, and a handful of his other new minions. When the battle starts, the bridge is covered by his full "army".

I'd say that it was about on par with the first X-Men film. The second remains the best by far. I enjoyed the film quite a bit. The last 20 minutes are about as action packed as you can ask for. I also enjoyed the multiple storylines before the finale, mostly having to do with the cure, and the situation with the mutants wanting it or not. It's a minor subplot in the film, but I thought the relationship between Rouge and her boyfriend worked well. I also enjoyed Mckellan and Jackman's performances.

That saying though, the film is flawed. It has a hard time balancing when it wants to be serious and when it wants to be funny. It also doesn't help when there are some unintentional laughs in there with some corny dialouge. Anything that was said by the President was about as hammed up as you could possibly want it. Still, there was one line that brought the house down, and that was "I'm Juggernaut bitch."

Then there is Kelsey Grammer as The Beast. I thought most of the scenes he was in worked very well. He made The Beast a convincing character.....................anytime that is when he isn't fighting. The brief shots we see of The Beast in the final fight just had me laughing, first by the way he attacks people and second, seeing Kelsey Grammer doing these fight sequences.

I also didn't enjoy the fact that I didn't care about any of the characters or whether they died or not (With the exception of one character, who supposedly is alive at the end of the film's credits. I wish I stayed until the end so I could say that with 100% accuracy). The second film made you care about the characters. This one didn't so much.

Still, it's an enjoyable action flick, and for what Ratner had to pull off I'd say he did a pretty good job.

WOW!!! This truly is the BEST Comicbook Adaptation in awhile, at least since SPIDERMAN II and this movie clearly was better than BATMAN BEGINS in terms of Action and when ranked against the other 2 X-MEN movie's, the rank is: X3 then X2 and X1.. Brett Ratner has hit a homerun with this movie and judging from the crowd response at the end, everyone else appears to have felt the same way.. The place was PACKED tonight and a pleasure to know that this isn't the end of the X-MEN Franchise.. X3 get's the highest grade possible of an "A+" and DC 's comicbook adapataion in the form of SUPERMAN RETURNS is going to have to really step up to the plate in beating this movie and I don't think it's gonna happen.. X3 is gonna have really good legs and last awhile.. I don't know what else to say other than comicbook nerds got it wrong on this movie and I don't think they know what there talking about.. Hell, I wish Brett Ratner would Direct the BATMAN BEGINS SEQUEL and show Nolan how it's done.. :2thumbsup:

Definitely not the complete shit-heap I thought it would be. X3 works primarily as engaging spectacle and that's okay I suppose, but all throughout the movie I kept thinking of how amazing an X-Men movie could be made if they actually spent some time on the script. There are so many great characters and underlying themes and tension to mine in this franchise, but it's mostly wasted in The Last Stand. The narrative and plotting is pretty hideous, but things are kept moving thanks to McKellan and Jackman, who are once again the standouts in this third film. Beast was decent enough, I really liked Kitty and Bobby, Rogue was a waste, Pyro was cool, that sonic-boom chick was cool, Mystique was a great source of humour until she left early, Juggernaut was very lame, and while they handled Storm's weather effects very well, Berry was as unconvincing in the leader/mentor role as could be. It all leads to an extremely impressive action set-piece in San Francisco and a pretty fantastic mutant smackdown.

It was a big plot hole in the film that I also heard many people go, "WTF?"

But honestly, who liked the action in X2 better? While the movie only really had like 3 good action scenes(Nightcrawler, invasion at Xaiver, & the end) those combined were bettter than all the action sequences in X3. That's why I'm like really dissapointed with this, because at the least, I expected this to have the best action.

Arg, I just can't get over this. This film has like ruined the whole franchise for me. Everything that was set up in the previous two just got destroyed by this one and had no meaning. I mean, Scott and Mystique are freakin gone in like 5 minutes. Rogue is hardly in the film. I could go on and on. Man, its been like 5 hours and I'm still pissed off.

X2 had much better staged and paced action scenes. The fight between Wolvie and Lady Deathstrike is excellent.

I disagree. I thought that was mediocre at best. Nothing visually impressive or stylish IMO. Nearly every action scene in X3 was better IMO.

The nightcrawler sequence in the beginning 'alone' is better than anything X3 did.

I disagree, although I thought it would be an ego trip, Halle was very convincing as Storm, even though she has no backstory anymore, and definitely her best performance in a big movie.

The biggest problem was Rogue, I mean she was the main point of the first film, then was becoming a bigger member in the 2nd, then she totally disappears, She should be in her mid 20s now, they should have developed her other powers.

Like I said, movie was really fun entertaining, good story, great characters, my favorite film of the year so far. But they really wasted an opportunity with the phoenix.

**If i got to rewrite the story, I would have put Scott leave one day, without an answer, not to return til the end, where jean finally reappeared, leading the way for the next film.

Then you ask, what would they use for another plotline. Jean was basically a henchman, they could have actually used more of the juggernaut, and the conflict that he is Xavior's brother, bent on destroying him. Since they used both characters halfassidly, they should have just picked one and went with it. I mean The Juggernaut is unstoppable and so powerful as well, much more important than he was depicted in the film.

But anywho I'm reaching. The movie is definitely the Return of the Jedi or T3 of the series, but it is still a great addition to the series. Well done Ratner, with your biggest hit to date.

And that made it better? X2 was a film that was serious AND fun. X3 is like mostly tring to be fun only.

A balance of the two is better espically if it is done as well as it was in X2.

I fully agree.

This film was really less serious than the previous?

Is that any type of consensus, I wonder?

(That's a question to you all, please answer now.)

i think it's just as serious. there's a bit more lighthearted humour in this one but it still retains a grim edge to it overall.

While it was pretty enjoyable while I was watching it, I couldn't help but think "That was it?" when it was over. The film was really lacking in the character department, and really should've tried to slow down a bit more, like X2 did with Iceman's visit to his parents and the scene between Wolverine and Mystique. Plus, the love triangle between Iceman, Kitty and Rogue was really, really underdeveloped. Hell, Rogue's entire story was underdeveloped.

And yeah, the action, while exciting, seemed to lack the honest energy of the action sequences from the first two. I was watching X2 this evening, and felt more adrenaline during the school raid and Wolverine vs. Deathstrike fight then I ever did during this one.

B/B-

I think that was kinda my problem, too.

It wasn't "X-Men" it was "Storm + Wolverine vs Magneto + Pheonix".

I dunno...everything got swept aside.

That doesn't really explain why I felt so bad afterwards.

Well I enjoyed it alot. I don't think ive cussed so much in a movie as I did in the last stand, especially at the end and the part with cyclops and wolverine in the jungle tryin 2 attack magneto. It was a good summer flick, enjoyable, and I didnt want to leave the theatre. Wish It was longer though and had a little more backstory to it and such, but ill give it a A-

It's okay for a film like Batman Begins to be serious as the comic itself is but I expect more light-hearted fun when I see X-Men. Bryan Singer seems to think everything he does has to have a tragic quality to it which is unfortunate. Ratner seems to let loose more. It's really about expectations and personal preference though. I watched X2 earlier today and was bored by it. It moved too slow with all the dream sequences, etc. for my liking. While X3 did have its slow spots, it injected some much-needed humor into the proceedings to liven things up. Plus, the whole cure storyline was mucho interesante.

Yes

I concur. It just came across as less serious than the previous 2.

On another note, do you all think that this is really the "Last Stand" for the series or do you expect an X-4 aside from the planned spin-offs? I'd like to see Ratner get another crack at it. If not him, my favorite director David R. Ellis would also be a good choice and as a former stunt cordinator, he knows how to handle action sequences as he was the second unit director on The Matrix films, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Deep Blue Sea, Exit Wounds, and more. I really think he could handle it with ease. He's also known for injecting sly humor into his films, which is a plus.

I still think X2 grows a little dull at Stryker's base. And X3's action is better than either of the previous films.

Drama in X3 = Xavier, Magneto and Pheonix

Everything else was lighthearted.

Perfect blend.

And the ending, the REAL ending, after the credits, MADE the movie

We must have different tastes, but Wolverine and Deathstrike was pretty crappy IMO. That action scene in the house, or the finale for X3 were both better IMO then everything in the first two movies. Ratner does a great job using the special effects, cinematography, and pace in the action. X2 didn't really have any action that looked like it really belonged in this decade. X3 looked at least as good visually as the best music videos.

So, X3's action is going to become dated more quickly then X2's?

Ratner is better at directing action than Singer which doesn't bode well for Supes Returns.
