Because of all the extra action and cheese its sometimes the most liked of the series, but thanks to overall direction and some poor choices in the end, quality wise its not the best.
But that being said, it is still and X-men film.
My big question is to Lector, does it blow Superman III and Batman Forever out of the water? To be the best 3rd superhero film in a series.
Hmmm, it is certainly better than Superman III (is that even hard?), but I must admit that I certainly prefer Batman Forever to it.

Here's USA TODAY'S Review of X3.. They give it 2.5 stars out of 4 and say that maybe FOX should think twice about referring to this movie as "The Last Stand" when there's obviously room for a sequel and more films that will make alot of $$$.. Got that FOX???? Got that Tom Rothman????
'X-Men' morph from moody to just angry
'X-MEN': THE LAST STAND Review: Third film is slicker, but lacks soul By Claudia Puig, USA TODAY X-Men: The Last Stand ( * *½ out of four) expands on the themes of discrimination and alienation explored in the first two films, and still retains the franchise's signature kick-butt action features. It also has a couple of emotionally resonant scenes that build on the first two story lines. But it lacks the intriguing moody quality of the previous films. The mutants are more pumped up and angry this time, rather than misunderstood and conflicted.
The main characters return for a third go-round. On the side of good are Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Rogue (Anna Paquin), Cyclops (James Marsden) and Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). On the dark side, Ian McKellen reprises his role as the steely Magneto, and Rebecca Romijn returns as Mystique, the shape-shifter.
A new and very blue face is that of Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Henry McCoy/Beast, a hirsute geneticist whose stuffed-shirt performance seems a bit jarring with the rest of the tough X-Men. Another new character, Angel (Ben Foster), plays a barely significant role; his most interesting scene is as a little boy (Cayden Boyd) attempting to saw off his wings.
The conflict between conformity and embracing one's uniqueness is further examined as Angel's doctor father (Michael Murphy) develops a cure for mutations. This kicks off a war between men and mutants. The mutant side is spearheaded by Magneto, who as a child saw his parents dragged off to a concentration camp because they were different from the ruling party.
Magneto and his former friend, the professor, tangle once again. Magneto resents the ruling humans' attempts to control mutants and espouses violence, while the professor favors reasoned calm and understanding. But it is an unexpected battle between the professor and a former student that comes as the big shocker.
Most astonishing visually is a scene in which the Golden Gate Bridge is dramatically dismantled by the powerful Magneto.
Director Brett Ratner seems to have a way of blending eye-popping special effects and ambitious action sequences with drama, but don't expect depth and subtlety. He has a more mainstream sensibility, so this film is slicker with more splashy effects, but you miss the brooding quality of the last two, directed by Bryan Singer.
The ending seems to leave things open for a fourth installment. Perhaps studios should think twice before calling a movie The Last Stand until they decide with certainty that it is indeed the final entry. (In some theaters at midnight tonight. Running time: 1 hour, 44 minutes. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence, some sexual content and language.)

I loved T3 so if its t3 quality then i will be happy, but when you say something as bad as Batman Forever is better then that really is terrible.
Im seeing it today in about 3 hours at the first showing(11am).

I saw the film at the 11am showing today, its not the mess some are saying, the action is good but for someone like me who loves the comics i was very angry with the treatment of the characters and story, still for anyone not a fan they will like it. i give it **1/2 stars. It was dissapointing that they never showed the sentinels in the danger room, just its decapitated head, the fight between the 6 x-men and brotherhood was very well done, as is all the action, the story sucked though.
Spoilers!
[spoil]So it seems the cure was just temporary huh? with that magneto scene at the end.[/spoil]
For those who have seen after the end credits.
[spoil]So, was it all a dream? it shows charles coming out of a coma and saying hello to moira!!!![/spoil]

Answer:
[spoil]It wasn't a dream. Early in the film, Xavier asks if it's ethical for someone to transport their conscience into a person with no real brain activity. Xavier simply swapped bodies.[/spoil]

I have to say, Cyclops and rogue really got the shaft in this film, especially cyclops, he didnt do jack shit in the whole series and he's supposed to be the team leader, i never liked his character(im a wolvie fan) but i felt bad for the treatment of his character.

It is not as much as the movie was disappointing (even though it was). It was more that this series, that I really love, had to end this way.
I'll make it short because I already elaborated on it longer in GCT and will try to put up a review tonight on the site:
To me, the film was similar to Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Similarites have always been there to begin with. The first two movies of both franchises are considered good/very good and then a director change happened in the third....
I gave the first X-Men film an A/A+ while the second earns a certain A+ from me and a spot in my all-time Top Ten, so what I am telling is just for me and in comparison to other installments...
Just like T3, X3 is an entertaining romp. The action is splendid (even though it sometimes doesn't make sense, it is still great to look at), the effects are great. The old ensemble cast is still very good. Ian McKellen is excellent (especially towards the end) and Hugh Jackman is good as ever.
But this movie justdoesn't quite...cut it. X2 was excellent because it took what was good in the first film and developed it further adding something new. This film doesn't bring a single character any further. A lot of good/evil ambiguity is missing here. Many things simply don't make sense. I am usually never the one to pick on plot holes or film mistakes in popcorn films, some things in the film, especially towards it end really tested me.
While the finale battle is great and most of the characters' powers are well-used, the resolution of the climax is just disappointing. Some character deaths come unexpected, but only one of them works well and somewhat powerful. Most will just leave you shrugging.
Brett Ratner will get a lot of blame and I agree with some of it. But the blame should also go on the screenwriters at least in the same amount. The makers just didn't have a good hand for characters. The storyline was by far not as involving and elaborated as in the last film. There is a very good movie somehwere underneath this film, but it just needed the right makers. Moreover, the movie's running time of jhust under 110 minutes is way too short. It feels as if the climax just comes halfway into the film. Most of the new characters (like the heavily-promoted Juggernaut and Angel) are flat-out wasted. Angel is barely in the film.
Those who are just out for some not-so memorable entertainment will enjoy this. It is fun and rewatchable. But as a Marvel and X-Men fan, I just found it disappointing. The X-Men franchise was one of my most favorite ones, maybe even THE most favorite.
My grade:
B
It does leave a small door open for a potential sequel, but somehow I doubt we'll see one soon. As I said, the fact that the trilogy had to end like this disappoints me the most about it...
As I've said before, our taste in films is confrontingly weird. Except for rom-coms we most often agree.
And like you I came out of the cinema wanting to walk in front of a car. But your "B" grade suggests this has some sort of merit. It did not.

Listen here Sally Struthers, I consider the x-men films much more important than the Underworld franchise. Because Synger did such a great job with 1 (A-) and 2 (A), I had high hopes for no 3, even with a new director.

I don't understand how you can call a film "the most disappointing of all time", and then give it a B.
Being a bit generous, aren't we?

I favor the first over the second (B+ vs. B-).... no real anticipation for this. Hmmph.

I think he means in his own personal context he was hoping for another A movie.
A B grade is crushingly dissapointing when you're talking about you're favourite movie series with such high quality films preceeding it.

Yeah, that's obvious. What with the, "This is gonna suck!" "This looks TERRIBLE!" "There's no way this is going to be any good!' - type comments. Good to know you walk in with an open mind.
