Yeah guys T3 made $150m, though Superman should get closer to $200 - it can still only make $150m.

Look at the similarilities:

Both films came out over a decade after the last installment (two decades in the case of Superman) and atleast T3 followed a well loved film in T2, not the case for Superman

Both films released a week before Pirates of the Carribean!!!

Both films released after a month of Pixar domination.

Both films seem to be a rehash of previous installments (more so for Supes)

Both films came after an X Men film had already been a big hit in the same summer

both were thought unnnescary by the fanbase

both have no appeal to kids under 10

Both opened a few weeks after a mega big film with "fast" and "furious" in the title

I think the big one there is that it opens a week before POTC2 which cant be a good thing. I know you are a superman fan - and if it does big business or atleast is a quality film - Im all the happier. I love the first two Superman films, so I hope this is a good one too, but it seems that it may not do so well.

The biggest question mark hanging over Superman Returns is how big POTC 2's effect will be. One or the other will have to underperform. I'm not sure the market can sustain two $300+ million blockbusters in a single fortnight.

My bet is X-3 makes about 210 mill and Superman Returns blasts past it to $240 million. Massive opening, weak legs.

last year, star wars longest yard n magagascar combined for over 740 million, and they were released within 7 days of eachother. supes with 290, pirate with 370.

yeah...noones calling extraordinary legs or anything, but it can manage 140 million+ opening week, drop 50-55% against pirates but then get 45% or so drops, and get 275-290 instead of the 300 million+ its opening hinted at at.

Couldnt agree more. Not to mention as I stated the first comicbook movie that steps up to bat usually wins most of the time. People will probably be comic booked out by the time SR hits. Even with an 85 million 3 day, its chance would be killed by POTC2 since it will do to SR what X3 did to Davinci

Yes even if it drops hard, by the end of the week it will have 165 million in the bank already, a second week gross of something even as low as 30 million would have put it close to 200 million anyhow. AS of right now I cant see SR opening day even matching X-2 or X-3. I would say its opening day will be closer to the Hulk(Note I didnt mention anything about legs or weekend so dont say that Hulk isnt a good comparison)
