First projections for Germany's weekend number is around 1,400,000 - 1,600,000 admissions.
That'd place its opening at around #19-#22 of all time. Very good, but on the other hand underwhelming considering th hype and how it is selling out in theatres around me. I still think a higher number is possible with a strong Saturday.
In total it should end up with around 5,800,000-6,000,000.

Thats exactly how i feel about the Oz number. Its hype is fever pitch, sell outs galore - a good number but a little lower than expected. The weekend should get stronger in both countries however.

There's one simple reason for that (at least in Germany)
the afternoon shows are not doing that good (especially compared to movies like HARRY POTTER), that's why DVC (probably) can't reach a top ten of all time opening. But the evening and late shows are packed and can compete with LORD OF THE RINGS or HP or STAR WARS...

That is an awesome number.

Quote: 'Da Vinci Code' hits theatres in Japan Tokyo: Controversial film 'The Da Vinci Code' today premiered in 863 theatres across Japan, the largest ever opening for a movie in the country.
There was a huge turnout for the movie, based on a Dan Brown bestseller, which sold nine million copies in Japan alone, Kyodo News reported.
Tickets for the morning show of the film was sold out at least an hour before showtime in most of the theatres. In a cinema hall in Tokyo's busy Shibuya area, over 800 people lined up for tickets to the morning show.
For shows later in the day, people waited in winding queues upto 50 mts long. Some of the people had booked the tickets in advance.
Looks good for a decent opening in Japan as well!

Perhaps the hype grew to such insane levels that we're all starting to think HP/LOTR type numbers......it's not too far off. Thursday was still a work day, and judging by other markets as well - this movie plays better in the evenings....understandably so.
The crowd I saw at my session on Friday night were old teenagers and above...

ITALY - Opening Day
No surprises here, DVC registered the largest opening day of all-time, crushing the previous record holder (Life is Beautiful) and more than doubled the opening of Passion (Wednesday).
The Da Vinci Code - $2.6m (910 TC) Life Is Beautiful - ? Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $1.9m (€1,215,871 - 730/1000+ prints) War Of The Worlds - $1.33m (562 TC) The Passion Of The Christ - $1.2m (€1m - Wed) Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $985,540 (509 TC) The Matrix: Reloaded - $944,000+ The Matrix: Revolutions - $944,000 (502p)
Passion ended up grossing, $1.2m on Thu and then $1.5m on Friday. Which meant that it grossed ~$4m Wed-Fri and a further $5m Sat-Sun.
Expect explosive single day takings on Saturday and Sunday......it's looking good for a record $10m+ opening weekend here.

Tentpole takes in $73 mil in global tally
By NICOLE LAPORTE, ADAM DAWTREY
http://www.variety.com
Despite a negative reception at Cannes, "The Da Vinci Code" is off and running at the worldwide box office with a $73 million global tally through Friday, proving that a Cannes launch doesn't necessarily make or break a pic at the box office.
But a boffo $5 million in Blighty couldn't save ColTriStar's U.K. topper Richard Napper. He got the bullet late last week and will be replaced by Warner U.K. theatrical head Peter Taylor.
Following its Cannes preem on May 17, "Code" opened in most world territories on Friday.
In the U.S., Sony's thriller, based on the bestseller by Dan Brown, made $30 million its first day, suggesting a boffo weekend take of about $80 million.
Overseas, the pic totaled $43 million. With Japan opening Saturday, the foreign weekend looks set for $125 million, which means "Da Vinci" could break $200 million worldwide in a single weekend.
Pic was reportedly released on 20,000 prints worldwide.
In Italy -- despite calls for a boycott for the pic by Vatican officials -- "Code" broke the box office record previously held by Roberto Benigni's "Life Is Beautiful," taking in $2.6 million on Friday.
Numbers were similarly strong throughout Europe, with "Code" making an estimated $3.5 million in Germany and $3 million in Spain.
In France, where "Code" bowed on May 17, pic opened to $1.9 million, the second-largest opening this year. Sony is projecting a $10 million take over the first five days.
In Mexico, "Code" minted $1.5 million.

I'd like to know what some you think this film will make WW, now that it has launched world wide. I said at the beginning that it should do 80 ow, 250 NA total and at least 600 WW. Do you guys think this is realixtic?

I think it will make at least $350M overseas, so $600M WW is a very good possibility.
The first international weekend is projected at $125M. It should do another $200 to $300M more.

UNITED KINGDOM - Opening Day
This list is not complete, still missing GOF, Narnia...so if you know let me know. LOL
Anyhow, Da Vinci's Thursday (?) is on par with ROTK's Wednesday and is one of the largest of all-time. If it tracks like ROTS over the weekend, it'll be looking at around US$20-25m. Which is huge, and easily inside the Top 10 largest openings of all-time.
It might actually gross above 10m pounds afterall..
Harry Potter 3: POA - $9.23m (£5,031,877- Mon - 535) – Record Star Wars 3: ROTS - £3,332,202 (490 TC) Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $5,214,625 (Wed - £3.1m - 487/1299) The Da Vinci Code - $5m Lord Of The Rings: TTT - ~$4.4m (Wed - £2.43m) Harry Potter: COS - $3.99m (£2.18m - 522) Harry Potter 1 - $3.9m (£2.1m - 507) Spiderman 2 - $3.1m (£1,686,171 - 504) Lord Of The Rings: FOTR - $3m (Wed - £2.09m) or $3.7m % Estimate The Matrix: Revolutions - $3.07m (Wed 0 467 TC/925p) The Matrix: Reloaded - $2.3m (Wed - 461 TC)
GERMANY - Opening Day
Pretty strong opening, though nowhere near record breaking. It's opening day in admissions is probably around 350k-400k adms., Dr. Lecter can probably confirm. Just below FOTR.
Still, looking good for a $11m+ opening, which would put it around AOTC level.
Star Wars 3: ROTS - $5.6m (705,348 adms. incl. $2.6m evening 8pm Wed p/v and midnights - 1182 TC) (T)Raumschiff Surprise: Periode 1 - ~$5m+ (625,000 adms.- (incl. 164,000 Wed-10pm in 700 TC - 900 TC) Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $4,815,001 (616,021 adms. - 916sc/1337 TC) Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $3,950,000 (613,462 adms. - 1226 TC) Star Wars 1: PM - 585,586 adms. (1001 TC) Lord Of The Rings: FOTR - $3.5m The Da Vinci Code - $3.5m Star Wars 2: AOTC - $2.3m (611,406 adms. - 1038 TC)
SPAIN - Opening Day
Record breaking Friday, easily the largest opening day of All-Time. I can't believe it managed to beat ROTK's Wed by such a large amount.
The current 3-Day record is held by Torrente 3 at $8,700,774, 4-Day record held by ROTS at $9,700,099 and the 5-Day and overall record holder is ROTK at $9,966,990.
DVC could actually make as much in 3-Days as ROTK did in 5....it might just be able to top $10m-11m.
The Da Vinci Code - $3m Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $1,749,199 (512) Star Wars 3: ROTS - $1,741,333 (495 TC) War Of The Worlds - $1.2m (345 TC) Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $1,080,000 The Matrix: Revolutions - $1.06m (471 TC/465p) Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl - $1,026,120 (343 TC) Lord Of The Rings: FOTR - $800,000+
MEXICO - Opening Day
Opening just above WOTWs ($6.6m weekend), DVC might find itself with a HP4 like opening around $7m. Still has some way to go before it matches Ice Age 2's $8,850,363 3-Day opening.
The Da Vinci Code - $1.5m War Of The Worlds - $1.26m (359) The Matrix: Reloaded - $1.05m (530p/898sc) The Matrix: Revolutions - $898,000 (550p/828sc) Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $884,376 (550) Batman Begins - $829,698
Overall, consistently strong openings in all the European and Latin American markets.....can't wait to see the Asian numbers......

I should point out that Thursday for TDVC had very limited showtimes in a small amount of theaters here. Im not even sure if that number makes sense for the thursday because it was more limited than the number suggests.
If the $5m IS for thursday, then friday will be mammoth. But as a friday number, $5m is incredible. Especially considering how strong multipliers here are.
$15m+ weekend = lock.

$125m projected International....LOL, Dr. Lecter - looks like we're going to be spot on...
With an opening like this, $400m Intl. is likely, which means a Worldwide gross anywhere between $650m-$750m.

That article seems to be quoting Friday numbers, though it doesn't specifically say that it's a Friday gross in the UK.
Still, $5m on Thursday or Friday will result in a Saturday gross above $6m...etc, unless it's extremly front loaded. Anywhere between $18-$25m looks likely.
$15m is a definately lock, especially when you have grossed 1/3 of that total with another 3 days to go.

DVC had about 270,000 admissions in Germany opening day in 878 theaters with 1,154 prints (over here the theaters usually raise ticket prices if the movie runs more than 135 minutes...)

Thanks for the confirmation, slightly lower than what I was expecting. I guess you're right, the inflated ticket prices did wonders for its US$ gross....

Hehe, $350 million? It should have that after 4-5 weeks.
I project an international gross of $500-550 million. Unless the World Cup really hurts it...
So, worldwide, I currently see around $760 million or so.

Good job for us!
I think it will easily pass $450 million internationally. I expect the film to make 65+% of its worldwide gross overseas.
